Our group was present at European Sexual Medicine Network WG4 meeting in Zagreb!

Marco G. Alves was present at the WG4 meeting of the European Sexual Medicine Network held in Zagreb, Croatia, during 24-26 November. The meeting discussed the dissemination strategy of the Network for the next year. Our group continues to be compromised with the Network.

A paper by Ana S. Correia, Sara C. Pereira, et al. entitled "Obesity-Related Genes Expression in Testes and Sperm Parameters Respond to GLP-1 and Caloric Restriction" has just been published in "Biomedicines" journal. In this paper, the authors discuss the effects of diet on the expression of obesity-related genes in mice testis and spermatozoa. Congratulations!

Our group was at the Pyschology of Sexuality subgroup meeting in Turim!

Marco G. Alves was present at the Pyschology of Sexuality subgroup meeting from the European Sexual Medicine Network that was held during 6-7 October in Turim, Italy. Among several subjects, was discussed a new research project with the involvement of our group.

Mafalda Moreira and Barbara G. Carvalho have been awarded PhD grants by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology!  Congratulations! 

A paper has been published in "Biomedicines"!

A paper by Ana M. Silva, Raquel L. Bernartino, et al. entitled "Stress Hormone Corticosterone Controls Metabolic Mitochondrial Performance and Inflammatory Signaling of In Vitro Cultured Sertoli Cells" has just been published in "Biomedicines" journal. In this paper, the authors discuss the effects of corticosterone on the mitochondrial function and inflammatory response of mice Sertoli cells. Congratulations!

Our group at the "Congress of the Italian Society of Physiology"!

Marco G. Alves, Raquel L. Bernardino, and João C. Ribeiro represented our research group at the "72th Congress of the Italian Society of Physiology", held on the 14th-16th of September in Bari, Italy. Congratulations!

Ana D. Martins was awarded a Stimulus for Scientific Employment (CEEC)!

Ana D. Martins project entilted: "No Fertility for Old Men - Identification of spermatozoa and seminal plasma biomarkers for capacitation in aging using a proteomic approach" won funding in the "Concurso Estímulo ao Emprego Científico Individual".  Congratulations!

Our research group at the ESHRE Annual Meeting 2022!

Marco G. Alves, Luís Crisóstomo and David F. Carrageta represented the Sertoli Cell & Gamete Biology research group at the 38th ESHRE Annual Meeting, held from 3-6 July 2022 in Milan, Italy. In the biggest european congress in Reproductive Biology, David was selected for poster presentation, whereas Luís was selected for extended poster discussion. Congratulations! 

Luís Crisóstomo - PhD degree

Luís Crisóstomo, successfully defended his PhD thesis after a public defence held today, 30th June 2022, and he has become our group's newest PhD holder. Congratulations to him and to his PhD Advisors! 

Our group at the "European Society for Clinical Investigation"! 

David F Carrageta, Bárbara Guerra-Carvalho, Sara C. Pereira, and João C. Ribeiro represented our research group at the "European Society for Clinical Investigation 2022", held on the 8th-10th June in Bari, Italy. Sara C. Pereira was awarded with Best Poster Presentation and João C. Ribeiro was awarded with Best Oral Presentation. Congratulations!

A paper has been published in "Biomedicines"!

A paper by João C. Ribeiro, Ana D. Martins et al. entitled "Exenatide and Dapagliflozin Combination Enhances Sertoli Cell Secretion of Key Metabolites for Spermatogenesis" has just been published in "Biomedicines" journal. In this paper, the authors discuss the effects that antidiabetics and antiobesogenic drugs have on the nutricional support of spermatogenesis. Congratulations!

A new Editorial was published in "Antioxidants"!

An Editorial by Luís Crisóstomo, Pedro F. Oliveira and Marco G. Alves entitled "Antioxidants, Oxidative Stress and Non-Communicable Disease" has been published in the Special Issue with the same title, in the journal "Antioxidants". This Editorial contextualizes the Special Issue in "Antioxidants, Oxidative Stress and Non-Communicable Disease", where the authors served as Guest Editors, and highlights the manuscripts included in it.  Congratulations!

A paper has been published in "Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders"! 

A paper by David F Carrageta, Bárbara Guerra-Carvalho et al. entitled "Animal models of male reproductive ageing to study testosterone production and spermatogenesis" has just been published in "Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders" journal. In this paper, the authors discuss the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the most used animal models for the study of reproductive ageing, particularly spermatogenesis and testosterone production. Congratulations!

Our group at the "European Congress of Endocrinology 2022"! 

David F Carrageta, Bárbara Guerra-Carvalho, Laís Freire-Brito and Mafalda Moreira represented our research group at the "European Congress of Endocrinology 2022", held on the 21th-24th May in Milan, Italy. All elements have participated with a poster presentation. Congratulations!

Our group at the "IJUP 2022"  

Mariana Marques, Diana Nunes, Ricardo Silva, and Alexandra Fomichova represented our research group at the  "IJUP 2022",  held on the 5-6 May in Porto, Portugal. All students have participated with a poster presentation. Alexandra Fomichova was rewarded with one of the best poster awards with the work "The Impact of chromium picolinate on Sertoli Cell's Viability". Congratulations!

Basic Science Travel Grant - European Congress of Endocrinology 

Our colleagues David F. Carrageta, Bárbara Guerra-Carvalho, Mafalda V. Moreira and Laís Brito have been awarded with Basic Science Travel Grant by the European Society of Endocrinology to attend the 24th European Congress of Endocrinology. The congress will be held on the 21-24 May 2022 in Milan, Italy. Congratulations!

A paper has been published in "Biomedicines"! 

A paper by Luís Crisóstomo et al. entitled "Testicular “inherited metabolic memory” of ancestral high-fat diet is associated with sperm sncRNA content" has just been published in the "Biomedicines" journal. In this paper the authors identify differently expressed small non-coding RNA sequences in sperm of mice fed with control or high-fat diet, and in their progeny. The results suggest a role of sperm RNAs in the epigenetic inheritance of ancestral exposure to high-fat diets. Congratulations!

Call for papers to the Guest Edited Collection: "Metabolomics of ageing"

A paper has been published in "World Journal of Men's Health"! 

A collaborative paper including Crisóstomo L entitled "Comprehensive Analysis of Global Research on Human Varicocele: A Scientometric Approach" has just been published in the "World Journal of Men's Health". This paper results from a global initiative led by our collaborators from the Cleveland Fertility Clinic (Cleveland, OH, US) to describe publishing trends in varicolece treatment. Congratulations!

Rafaela A. Oliveira is our most recent Master of Science!

Rafaela A. Oliveira has successfully defended her MSc Thesis on Molecular Genetics, 14th January 2022, at University of Minho. The newly crowned Masters of Science was exemplary in her presentations and discussions, having achieved a top grade! Congratulations!
