Short Biography

João Ribeiro holds a BSc degree in Biochemistry, obtained at the Life Sciences and Environment School (ECVA) of the University of Trás-os- Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in 2017. In October of 2019, he finished a master's degree in Applied Biochemistry at the University of Minho (UM). Following this, he was a lab technician on the project: "Spermboost: improving sperm preparation and cryopreservation for Assisted Reproductive Technologies" in the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS), University of Porto (UP) under the supervision of Professor Marco G. Alves, Ph.D.  He is presently a Ph.D. student in Biomedical Sciences, at the ICBAS-UP.

His research interests compromise ionic/water transport modulation in Sertoli cells and spermatozoa, and mechanisms by which endocrine disorders/pathologies result in subfertility and infertility. The work is being developed under the supervision of Ph.D.  Raquel L. Bernardino and co-supervision of Prof. Pedro F. Oliveira and Prof. Paula Jorge.
