The ruined remains of the Kalbasun tower are located in the vicinity of the modern village of Kyzyl-Bek in the May district of Pavlodar region. This monument was created by researchers at the Institute of archaeology named after A. Kh. Margulan, the scientists of Pavlodar state University S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar state pedagogical University.
For many centuries, travelers and researchers perceived it as a mosque, a Kalmyk temple, an ancient fortress, a tower, and even a KIMAK city. During the excavation work, it was found that in fact the ruins of structures on the left Bank of the Irtysh river, mentioned in historical sources under the names Kabal-Gasun (Gua balgasun), Jalin-OBO and Kalbasun tower, are the remains of mausoleums of the ulus zhoshi period and date back to the XIV-XV centuries.
The kalbasun tower is a Testament to the spread of Muslim traditions in the Saryarka steppes of the Golden Horde era and is one of the most striking examples of medieval Islamic architecture.
