As soon as your character is accepted into the roleplay, you must record their acceptance date on their application. This will canonize their starting IC age.
On the first of every month, Rise of the Clans has a group wide age-up: all characters in Rise of the Clans add +2 moons to their character’s IC ages. This stays constant throughout your character’s entire existence within Rise of the Clans.
The moderator team automatically keeps track of your character's ages, and will notify you when your character is due for a rank up. You must complete your character's rank up, before you may use them further in roleplay.
Death from Old Age: Characters may live to be a max of 200 moons IC. When a character reaches 200 moons old, an RPer must update their application to a StarClan one, and a vigil may be requested.
Character Rank-Up Eligibility
A character's eligibility for ranking up is based upon the character's IC age!
Character's IC age:
To rank a kit up to an apprentice, characters must be at least 6 moons old IC to be eligible. Kits must be ranked up by the time the character turns 8 moons old IC, no exceptions*.
To rank an apprentice up to a warrior, or other adult Clan rank such as a permanent nursery cat, or a specialty rank, characters must be at least 12 moons old IC to be eligible. Apprentices must be ranked up by the time the character turns 18 moons old IC, no exceptions*.
To retire a non high rank character to elderhood, characters must be at least 100 moons old IC to be eligible. All non high rank adult Clan cats must be ranked up to an elder by the time the character turns 120 moons old IC, no exceptions*.
High ranks and their retirement are not restricted by age: High ranks may live well past 120 moons carrying their title. They may choose to retire at a later age past 120 moons still, if they so wish. They will still, however, die of old age.
*Mod note: While these timeframes are set as group mechanics, plots for even later ceremonies/early retirements can be requested for moderator approval. Please reach out to the mod team via ticket in the discord server to discuss further!
Character Rank-Up Requirements
Depending on which rank your character is changing to, there will be different requirements to meet.
Kits to Apprenticehood and Apprentices to Warriorhood : Rank-Up Requirements
To have your kit/apprentice advance to the next level, the following requirements must be met:
They must be eligible: see above for character eligibility!
Their application art & corresponding written bio must be updated. All life stages pre-warrior should get updated artwork. If you are not an artist who is using another's work with permission, and do not have access to lineart, reach out to the mod team to discuss further options!
For kits becoming apprentices: you must find a mentor using the #apprentice mentor finder channel in the discord server within the character management category, and have them approved prior to submitting! If there are no open mentors available, an NPC mentor may be created for this purpose.
A Rank-Up Piece must be submitted: This can be either artwork, writing, or a roleplay depicting the ceremony! Minimum requirements for artwork is a flatcolor halfbody piece. Minimum requirements for any writing is 200 words.
Mod note: Writing/depicting a Clan's leader in Rank-Up pieces with any sort of dialogue outside of the pre-approved generic dialogue for ceremonies below is considered using another character without permission, and against the rules. If you'd like to use the generic pre-approved dialogue provided to avoid this, see below for the text.
Otherwise, please consult the Clan leader's roleplayer if you'd like their input on your character's ceremony!
Leader's Dialogue: Leaders may not be directly given dialogue or roleplayed for age-up pieces: any direct actions from the Clan Leader should be cleared with the leader's roleplayer before submitting. We do, however, have generic dialogue that can be used for any leader for any rank-up. This dialogue is pre-approved to be used by all leader roleplayers to be used as needed.
Apprentice Ceremony Dialogue
[Clan Leader]: "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as [Apprentice name]. Your mentor will be [mentor name]. I hope [mentor name] will pass down all [mentor pronouns] know[s] on to you."
Warrior Naming Ceremony Dialogue
[Clan Leader]: "I, [Leader name], leader of [Clan Name], call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn."
[Clan Leader]: "[Apprentice name], do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
[Clan Leader]: "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. [Apprentice name], from this moment on you will be known as [new warrior name]. StarClan honors your bravery and dedication, and we welcome you as a full warrior of [Clan Name]."
