NPCs - Non-Playable Characters
A Rise of the Clans "NPC" is considered a "non-playable" character that members may create as they wish to implement into the groupwide roleplay's canon, following the below process and rules.
"Non-playable" means that this NPC cannot ever be used "actively" within the groupwide roleplay. They are restricted in usage within the group in multiple ways:
Roleplaying: NPCs cannot be directly roleplayed whatsoever. They cannot be directly used in active RPs/RP events in the official RP discord server under any circumstances, and they cannot directly influence the active plots occurring in RP. There are very rare moderator-approved instances of when NPCs can be used for RP: please reach out to the moderator team to learn more!
Submissions: NPCs are restricted in submissions (i.e. art, writing, RPs, etc.) from being the “main subject” of the submission: they can only be used as “supporting/passive” or “background" content to your active character in submissions.
Earning points: NPCs do not earn points in the same way active characters do:
NPC application sheets will earn points in the same fashion that active character sheets earn points.
Submitted content (RPs, art, writing, etc.) with NPCs involved will only earn points if an active character of the RP is directly associated with the submission.
NPC Types
There are two different types of NPCs in Rise of the Clans:
LIVING NPCs: Living NPCs are NPCs that are alive at the same time in RP/IC canon as the current groupwide plot canon, at the time of that application sheet’s submission. They can be created to fill necessary gaps for your character’s IC lore, i.e., “background information/fluff/character history”, only. Living NPCs must be directly related to your active, playable character to be considered canon.
Examples of living NPCs that would be accepted to RotC are direct family members of your active character (i.e. parent, siblings), past mentors or apprentices, mates / past lovers, etc. Examples of NPCs that would not be accepted are distant cousins, childhood friends who were "part of their friend group", etc.
At any time, active characters can be "converted" to living NPCs, through a shop purchase from the OOC discord server shop. Learn how to NPC / Kill off an active character here!
Living NPC adoption: Living NPCs can also be adopted, both unofficially (i.e. with the NPC owner's permission, "picked up" by another member, then submitted on an active character application sheet), or officially: members are welcome to submit official adoption listings for their NPCs as groupwide adopts. To learn how to submit a group official adopt, please visit the OOC discord server to learn more!
DECEASED NPCs: Deceased NPCs are characters who are no longer living, and inhabit the afterlife in some fashion, be it StarClan, Stjar'Keld, the Dark Forest, etc. Unlike living NPCs, deceased NPCs can be created without any connection to active, playable characters at any members' discretion. They must, however, somehow directly tie to canon RotC lore in some fashion to be accepted as canon.
IMPORTANT MODERATOR NOTE: The mod team reserves the right to passively reference any accepted deceased NPC as background IC lore at their discretion: by having a deceased NPC accepted to the group as canon, you agree to this condition.
At any time, active characters can be "converted" to deceased NPCs through the request of a personal plot to kill off the active character. Learn how to NPC / Kill off an active character here!
HOW TO CREATE & SUBMIT AN NPC:
For the purpose of active character application submissions, we do not require that a full NPC application sheet of a living NPC mentioned in your active character's bio be submitted beforehand. Until an official NPC application sheet of the NPC directly named on your active character’s bio is submitted, however, you would not be able to use this NPC otherwise, until an official NPC sheet has been accepted to the roleplay.
NPCs must follow the character creation rules guide in terms of design, pre-RP and IC canon history, naming conventions, etc.
If you’d like to apply a shop purchase to your NPC, please reach out via ticket in the OOC discord server with the mod team to discuss.
NPC Clan prefix duplicates: unlike active characters, NPCs may have duplicate prefixes with other active characters and NPCs in the same Clan. No duplicate names are allowed among NPCs and active characters, however. For example, if WoodClan had an active character named Applefur, then there could also be multiple NPCs in WoodClan with the prefix “Apple”, but there could not be another NPC named “Applefur”.
Please use the appropriate NPC sheet for the NPC you are submitting, and fill out the written application for NPCs. If this is a living NPC, please use this application sheet. If this is a deceased NPC, please use the afterlife NPC application sheet associated with their afterlife.
Submit this NPC application to the group, for staff review and approval. In this stage, the moderators may ask for changes to your NPC prior to acceptance into group canon. Once the requested changes are made, the mod team will accept this NPC as canon to the group.
Leaving the roleplay: NPCs follow the same conditions as active characters when you leave this roleplay once they become canon: for more information on how the moderator team handles your characters in the event that you leave this roleplay, please click here!
