This one-week unit introduces students to mediation as a key process within Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). It covers the definition, core principles, steps in the mediation process, and various types of mediation. Real-world applications, including disability-related cases, are also discussed.
By the end of this week, students will be able to:
Define mediation and distinguish it from litigation and other ADR methods.
Describe the minuses of litigation and explain why ADR, especially mediation, is promoted as an alternative.
Identify the core roles involved in mediation.
Explain the formal steps in the mediation process.
Apply mediation techniques to real-life and disability-related scenarios.
