Concept of Five Parameters and Features of GSL

Overview

The unit examines why GhSL is regarded as a true language by using the five parameters. Likewise, the features of GhSL will be explored. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this topic, students will be able to:

• • List all the five parameters in GhSL 

  • Explain each of the parameters and how they are relevant in GhSL 

  • State the features of GhSL

  • Identify and sign some words under each feature

1. Watch the lesson three video for some vocabulary signing. 

2. Exercise: try your hands on lesson three Exercise (see pages 35 and 36 of the book 'Introduction to Sign Language' for Exercise 3)

3. Practice: sign all practice sentences (see page 34 of the book 'Introduction to Sign Language' for Practise 3)

4. Practice: sign basic story (login to myclass.knust.edu.gh for practice story or see page 34 of the book 'Introduction to Sign Language' basic story)

5. Read:  Log in to myclass.knust.edu.gh and read the concept of the 5 parameters in SL and the features of GSL. (Alternatively, read pages 75, and 76 of the book Introduction to Sign Language for the same information.)

Video Assignment 2

Open your sign language book to page 34. You can either create your own story about yourself or expand upon the story provided in the book. Practice the story thoroughly. After practicing, record your story and upload the video to Google Classroom. Make sure to join your class before posting your video.
