Individual speech events are in a different category from debate events. However, these events are just as important for students to practice and compete in to expand their public speaking skills. Anyone who wants to "sound better" should try out Radio Commentary! The event does not show the speaker's face; rather, the speaker focuses on their voice. Debaters who feel less confident in their agility and delivery will benefit greatly from events such as Impromptu speaking. This is also an area of opportunity for students who also may not see themselves as debaters but would like to become more confident speakers and challenge themselves in new ways.
