Big Questions (BQ) Debate is an NSDA event sometimes offered at OSAA tournaments. The format uses aspects of both Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate in a digestible, fun, practical way. Students have the same topic all year and resources available to prepare. The debate is one-vs-one. The topic is more philosophical and relies on a smaller quantity but strong quality of evidence to support each side. Big Questions is a great starting point for debate before delving into more complex content in other formats. This format also intends to promote debate for the sake of learning and engaging in beliefs which may not be their own.
