HOW TO GIVE

PRAYER FOCUS

OUTREACH MINISTRY

Dearest friends and co-labourers of God,

I greet you in the Name of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Please pray along with me:

O God our Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Word where we read about how you spoke to your people through Isaiah and said “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the cause of the widow” (Isa 1:17). We know that what you spoke so many centuries ago is still relevant and applicable to us today. We, too, need to learn to do right. So, teach us and show us the way you would want us to do right for the people in the community, especially those who are marginalised and prejudiced against.

We pray for our homeless and rough-sleeper friends. We ask that even as we bring them bread and water, we also bring them love and comfort. Help us to minister to them by listening to their needs, by discipling them through the love we show to them, by praying for them when they are discouraged. We pray for your protection to be over all of them – keep them safe from bad weather and from negative influences over their lives. We pray that you will give them peace, the peace that only Jesus can give.

We pray for the poor and the needy in Blk 223A Serangoon Ave 4 and Blk 8 Lor Lew Lian. All of them have different situations in their lives, but they all need to be restored. Some need physical restoration – healing from sickness and disease. Some need emotional restoration – healing from broken families and broken relationships. Some need financial restoration – healing from poor financial decisions and bad money management. And like us, all of them need spiritual restoration – we want your image in us to be made whole again; we want these “sheep who are not of this pen” (John 10:16) to be brought into your Kingdom as well. Give us the wisdom and strength to partner you, O God, in this endeavour to bring them in.

We also thank you for giving us the opportunity to reach out to the residents in the Joint Singles Schemes (JSS) units in Blk 208A Woodleigh Link and Blk 999A Buangkok Crescent. We know that they are the ex-rough sleepers, ex-offenders, people who have come from the shelters, and those who have serious difficulties with their families. Even as we bring a simple breakfast to them, we pray that this simple act is a vehicle towards befriending them and discipling them. Help us to bring your love to them so that they know that they are not alone in this world. These, too, are the your “sheep who are not of this pen”; and we want to partner you to bring them into your Kingdom.

We pray for all the migrant workers in Singapore. We lift them up in prayer to you – touch them where they are and let them know that you love them. For those who miss home and are anxious about their family situations at home, give them peace and give them comfort and assurance that you will make things well. For those who are hungry, give them food to eat. For those who are sick, heal them. Help us to do what is right – even the simple things – to bring that little bit of joy to the lives of the migrant workers. And help us, PLMC, to be a safe place for them.

We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
