Killdeer are birds in the Plover family that nest on the ground because the babies are precocial and will walk within 24 hours. The nearly identical male and female parents will both guard the nest of three to four eggs and perform a broken-wing dance to redirect attention away from the nest. 

We chose this PBL to solve the problem of convincing the Killdeer to lay their eggs away from the playgrounds. Students are researching information about Killdeer to create a plan to lure the birds to a safer nesting area.
