I’ve been an artist since my toddler days, encouraged by my mom. In fact, she enrolled me in oil painting classes when I was four, and one of my first assignments was to paint from life. I sat on the window seat in the classroom and painted a harbor view of Five Mile River in CT. Not quite plein air, but close!
What I love about plein air painting is being out in the environment, whether remote or urban, and connecting with the surroundings through artistic observation. I experience the environment deeply and memorably with a paintbrush in hand! And of course, painting plein air with a group such as PAPI is also about camaraderie and friendship.
I’m almost always enrolled in some kind of art instruction and am currently in my final year of a remote continuing education certificate program in Natural Science Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). I’ve simultaneously started a multi-year program there in Animation, as well. During the past five years I’ve studied frequently at the Art Students League of New York, with online live instruction.
I work in watercolor, gouache, oils, pastels, pencil, pen & ink, and block printing. My style is generally impressionistic and loose realism.
