I’ve painted with watercolors for many years, showing work with IWS, but have long been intimidated by the thought of working plein air. For me, it’s a completely different ballgame. Finally I worked up the nerve to show up at Edward’s on a Wednesday morning. I fumbled around, overpainting and making messes until I developed a method to work with. When working outside with changing light, one has to simplify quickly, and at the same time, make
decisions about composition. I adopted a style that involved starting with an expressive line as a scaffolding for the painting. I like to create a border but also break out of it in places. Sometimes it works!
