copying attachment
This comprises of a pointer and two rings which are fitted to either side of the saddle to prevent it moving sideways when using the machine for copying using a former plate. The latter is prepared with the required profile and fixed to the front of the lathe tray casting. An attachment is fitted onto the bottom end of the slide shaft, a suitable pointer is then fitted into it to follow the profile
The saddle ring locking bolt is left loose and on the end of the cross-slide shank is fixed a suitable pointer capable of following the profile on the former plate. A weight may be needed on the front of the saddle ring to keep pointer tight against the former plate. All kinds of fancy turning can be performed using the combination of Pittlers unique swiveling cross slide and this equipment.
The Pittler C3 lathe was the most popular lathe for both small and larger industrial workshops. Able to take on a wide variety of work, and in the hands of a skilled man, such things as Brass candlesticks, ornamental handles etc could all be turned in commercial quantities to exactly the same pattern.
