Collets

Unlike the smaller B2 lathe, the Pittler C3 did not come with included drawbars, a tailstock barrel bored right through and with a drawbar was also an additional cost for the C3. For Lathes fitted without a tailstock drawbar facility there is only a short (as yet unknown) taper to accept a centre, the remainder of the barrel is solid.

The mandrel drawbar is intended to accept collets with a 15mm diameter and 13mm thread. The mandrel needs an insert at both ends in order to fit the drawbar and collet. On the left-hand side of the mandrel fits an adapter and the drawbar is then inserted into it to hold it in the centre,  it can be seen in the photo below. A special taper sleeve fits in the front of the mandrel to hold the collet. The mandrel can also accept Morse taper 2 collets via an insert but would need a different drawbar. I have around 40 collets, some made by Boley and others are Crawford in both metric and imperial, The same collets fit the Pittler C3 drilling spindle and milling head.
