B.T.M. Watchmakers lathe

This is another of my lathes, it's shown here because it although it is miniscule it is of added interest because most of the fittings are compatible with the Pittler B2. The small size of the Pittler B2 mandrel has led to some owners making modifications to accept larger accessories.

BTM lathes were first produced in England during WW2 because German made lathes were no longer an option. The lathe is a watchmakers or instrument makers lathe and all it's dimensions were copied from a German Boley lathe. This means that all parts are fully interchangeable between both makes. Early WW2 era lathes have some parts painted black, later models produced for the civilian trade in the 1950's are Nickel plated or polished Steel The initials B.T.M are for the 'British Tabulating Machine Company' their background in complex machines gave B.T.M. the experience and skills necessary to undertake the development and manufacture of the machines used at Bletchley park to decode the German enigma machines.
