Rare type of long compound cross-slide fitted with a modern quick change toolpost
Above: with the top slide removed and showing how the slide can move and swivel completely around horizontally and also vertically due to the circular saddle collar. It permits work to be presented at multiple different angles to a cutter held in the chuck. It can also be adapted to hold workpieces for boring etc.
This heavy compound cross-slide is a rare accessory for the Pittler B2,
Above: the slide is shown fitted with a modern quick change toolbox whilst below it shows the original tool clamp fitted. This is a very heavy accessory made from hardened cast steel. It can be fitted without dismantling the tailstock by sliding the normal saddle casting off the saddle and placing it to the far left below the chuck. Then the compound slides open collar can be lifted over the bed and slid sideways onto the saddle and the lower part bolted on to lock it tight.
