Pittler lathe, hook spanners

Spanners & cutters

On the left are some of the original small items supplied as standard with every lathe. Later on under the ownership of George Adams many items such as traveling steadies were listed at extra cost.

The pin & hook spanners are used on the mandrel for adjusting the bearings and for the locknuts when changing the worm on the indexing spindle.

The keyed spacers are listed in the Pittler catalogues as supplied with every lathe but usually get lost, these are to make small adjustments to make sure the gear wheel aligns correctly with the worm.  The largest one has a threaded bronze ring to make slight adjustments where needed.

Pittler lathe mandrels & cutters

        Various mandrels and cutters

Some of these items were supplied as standard and can be seen illustrated in the earlier Pittler catalogues where the included accessories are displayed on the floor in front of the lathe. The mandrels take an 8mm size compatible with Boley & Wolf Jahn watchmakers lathes

On the right is a modern 8mm collet adapter threaded 3/8" X 24 tpi  for the head & tailstock and also the milling head

Pittler lathe Tommy bar

An interesting but unassuming item is this original Pittler Tommy bar,  it is visible on some of the Pittler catalogue illustrations but not mentioned in the inventory. It tapers to both ends and is used to tighten the large nut as shown on the right.

This nut locks the reversing gearbox banjo which needs to swivel away to fit on gears & worms
