Saddle rings for copy work

These rings are fitted to either side of the saddle to prevent it moving sideways when using the machine for copying using a former plate. The latter is prepared  with the required profile and fixed to the front of the lathe tray casting.

The saddle ring locking bolt is left loose and on the end of the cross-slide shank is fixed a suitable pointer capable of following the profile on the former plate. A suitable weight is attached to the front of the saddle ring to keep pointer tight against the former plate. All kinds of fancy turning can be performed using the combination of Pittlers unique swivelling cross slide and this equipment.

The Pittler C3 lathe was the most popular lathe for both small and larger industrial workshops. Able to take on a wide variety of work, and in the hands of a skilled man, such things as Brass candlesticks, ornamental handles etc could all be turned in commercial quantities to exactly the same pattern.
