Learning Intention: Conduct your own statistical investigation using the class data.
Problem: Come up with an original question that compares your class with other Y10 boys in New Zealand (e.g. Is 10ATK taller than other Y10 Boys in New Zealand?)
Plan: How will you answer this question given appropriate data?
Data: From Google Spreadsheet or get your own from Census At School. You should sort this first and 'clean' the data. A stem and leaf diagram may be useful.
Analysis:
✅ CL3 - Calculate the range, average (mean) and median time per week that the class spends travelling to school. Graph using a dot plot.
✅ CL4 - Calculate the range, mean, median, mode and complete a dot plot showing each data set.
✅ CL5 -Calculate the range, mean, median, mode, lower quartile, upper quartile and interquartile range. Complete a box and whisker plot for each data set.
Conclusion:
Summary statistics "I notice that...."
Shape of the data: "I notice...."
Spread of the data (range, interquartile range): "I notice that...."
Middle 50% of the data: "I notice that...."
