Construct a pot plant holder

Learning Intention:  create a net for a plant pot holder to be constructed from A3 size card.

What are the dimensions for a plant pot holder that will hold the bean you planted in a cup?

1) Measure the cup (it is basically a cyclinder so will have a diameter and a height) and record this in your book.  Use rounding where appropriate. Add a comment on the accuracy of your measurements.

2) Sketch a 3d drawing of a rectangular prism / cuboid that this cup could completely sit inside. Add the dimensions (lengths) to this sketch. (for CL5 - do the following tasks using a cylinder for the shape)

3) For this cuboid, calculate the following (showing all your working)

4) You will construct the pot plant holder from an A3 size sheet of card. Use your search OR measurement skills to find these dimensions.

5) Convert these dimensions to centimeters (cm) and metres (m)

6) What is the area of the A3 sheet? (use an online calcuator and give the answer in both centimeters squared (cm2)  and metres squared (m2))

7)Design the net from which you will construct the pot plant holder. This must be able to fit on one sheet of A3. Suggest you do a plan first in your works book before you put your design on the A3 card. You may wish to do this using an onlie drawing tool (here's a link to make a copy of an A3 size Google Drawing). Feel free to decorate this card with mad colours and sick designs!

8) Construct the pot plant holder and test to make sure the bean fits inside!

CL5+ Question: If you fill your new pot plant container with soil at a rate of 10 millilitres every 10 seconds, how many minutes would it take to fill up?

You can use the Card Template maker website and laser cutter to create your pot plant holder:
