Step 1)
On the tab labeled "Fern Coordinates" there is no need for students to input any data or make any manual changes. All they do here is copy and paste the black cell labeled "Output of coordinates" into desmos. These data points will form the initial fern in the lower left corner.
Step 2)
On the tab labeled "Initial band coordinates" there is also no need for students to manually input anything here. once again they should copy and paste the black cell labeled "Output of coordinates' into desmos. These points will form the left most band and will be centered from at x=1 and go from 0<=y<=120.
Step 3)
On the tab labeled "Adjusting Coordinates", the students can use the yellow section, here to do horizontal and vertical adjustments of the original fern image. Please note that they will need to drag these numbers down to the bottom of the yellow shaded area. Once they have entered their desired adjustments they can copy the black cell labeled "Output of coordinates" and enter this in desmos.
Step 4)
On the tab labeled "Adjusting Bands", the boys can use the yellow section, here to do horizontal and vertical adjustments of the original fern image. Please note that they will need to drag these numbers down to the bottom of the yellow shaded area. Once they have entered their desired adjustments they can copy the black cell labeled "Output of coordinates" and enter this in desmos.
NOTE:
Students will need to learn to use the "X" button to delete large groups of coordinates if they input a group of data that includes a mistake.
Please note when doing the adjustments the students need to ensure that the entire yellow section has data entered into it. Even if it is a 0. otherwise they will get uneven translations of points and the image will become disjointed.
The bottom line here is that the yellow cells require student input, the black cells are where they copy and paste from, and all other cells should be locked to everyone else except me. It may look like there are a lot of cells/formulas but I believe it shouldn’t be too onerous.
