Learning Intention: create rules from sets of coordinate pairs
Diagnostic:
List 4 other tasks that make use of the coordinate pair skill (i.e. grid coordinates on a map)
Example:
Tasks:
1) Play 4 in a line with a partner (play at least 3 times)
On a 6 by 6 grid, students take it in turns to mark a point. One is 'crosses' the other is 'noughts'. The first player to get four in a line next to each other (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) wins.
2) Record the co-ordinates of the winning lines:
3) Complete the following problems in your exercise book:
Link a simple interactive using x and y co-ordinates
Link to a Maze game to navigate around a grid using x and y coordinates without hitting the mines
Link to a Boat game where you control a boat using x and y coordinates
Link to a Scratch game of Battleships for 2 players using co-ordinates
Diagnostic answers:
Battleships, Supermarket aisles, identify chess moves, plotting points on a graph.
