Mode
The mode in a set of data is the data value that appears the most often.
the only average that can be used for categorical or non-numerical data. (e.g. Method of transportation)
Mean
most commonly used average.
Median
is the middle value of a set of numbers arranged in order.
To find the median of an even numbered data set, add the two middle numbers and divide by 2.
Range
The range of a set of data is a measure of how the data is spread across the distribution.
Each type of average has its purpose and sometimes one is preferable to an other.
Mode: eliminates extreme values, only to use for categorical data
Median: not affected by extreme values
Mean: takes into account all values in data set
