Know the first ten square numbers (e.g. 1, 4, 9, 16, …)
Explanation:
Square number: The result of any whole number multiplied by itself. E.g 5 x 5 = 25 therefore 25 is a square number
Square root: the opposite of squaring a number e.g. the square root of 25 is 5
Tasks:
1) Draw the first 10 square numbers in your maths book (e.g 1 square, 4 squares, 9 squares -
2) List the next 10 square numbers (i.e. from 11 x 11 = 121, 12 x 12 etc)
Extension
Cubed numbers
3) Your group will be given a set of blocks and an allocated cubed number. Construct this cube number in the same colour of blocks. When finished, place your model at the front of the class so we can see the first 6 cube numbers.
