"That’s the nature of hope, Hank. That we can dream of better days ahead of us.”
-John Green, P4A 2026
The 2026 Project for Awesome livestream started with 26,480 votes already cast and $430,595.37 already raised. John began the stream with a dud of a party popper and Hank quickly declared this to be the 2027 P4A, which would continue throughout the stream.
“I don’t know if you know this, John, but we skipped a year. We decided not to do this one,” Hank said. “Everything’s fine now, all that stuff got fixed.”
“Man, we were so stressed out in 2026 and then it all got resolved!” added John.
When Hank mentioned that P4A 2027 is under the sea, John declared that we are in Atlantis. Then, John had a big surprise for everyone. He now has his own Banana Loca!
He said that he didn’t know how to use it, so Hank would have to teach him. He then found a new party popper that worked much better. Hank set up Honk (of Honk and Bonk from the 2025 P4A) in the background and then began to try to teach John how to use the Banana Loca while John was dressed as Sillie Nelson.
Hank tried to talk John through how to Loca a banana, but John went on his own journey. Meanwhile, Save the Children was in chat and commented how glad they are to have shared the livestream link with their leadership team so they could also see this happening.
John placed part of a block of cheese into his banana and ate that. He did not Loca it.
John told Hank about how he has been “signing papers for no reason.” Since the P4A, John has announced his new book “Hollywood, Ending” and that he signed 85,000 copies for the US and Canada (and more for other places).
The brothers acknowledged that it’s been a tough year, but they were out of it because it’s 2027. They bantered a bit to develop the lore of 2027.
“2027 is stress free, we’re under the sea, giving money to charity,” said Hank.
“We figured out how to be Snorks. That’s the most important thing. That was a joke just for Hank. There’s nobody watching this that remembers the Snorks other than Hank,” said John, but chat declared that they knew about Snorks.
John and Hank went forward to 2027, all the problems were fixed but we live under the sea now. It’s Waterworld. There’s no more land. It’s not even a climate change thing. The Earth just started shooting water up out of it, no one knows why. We fixed it, though. The shared issue of the world flooding was a gift that allowed us to put aside our petty differences.
Chat asked if people have made it to Mars yet (thus keeping the name of the podcast Dear Hank and John). It was decided that going to Mars wasn’t a priority when everyone moved underwater. Hank posited that Mars might also be underwater and they could be streaming from there, but John shut that down. “I love to ‘yes and’ you, but that is a bridge too far.”
Now that we are underwater in the year 2027, everyone is a marine biologist. We all have gills on our backs but Hank and John won’t show us their gills because that’s nudity.
We are all in 2027, but we just got here so Hank and John are bringing us up to speed.
Chat referenced “Drunk Fish Try Breathing Air” which reminded Hank that while we are under water, the fish have taken the land. John reminded Hank that he just told us there isn’t land anymore. Hank admitted that he said that so people would get comfortable with the idea of being underwater by saying there wasn’t a choice, but really there was. We decided to not fight THE WAR WITH THE FISH so we just swapped.
Hank declared “Cars 2” to be in the “Minions” universe, not the “Cars” universe (yes, this was out of the blue). John declared this to be the worst take he’s heard expressed with such certainty since butt is legs. Hank then admitted that stirring up controversy is how we get attention on the charities. They each then declared some controversial takes:
Hank: “Frozen is mid. Taylor Swift? More like Taylor Nighthawk.”
John: “Citizen Kane sucks, I am opposed to The Great Gatsby, more like “The Mid Gatsby” am I right?”
Hank asked John to write “The Mid Gatsby” but John said no because he has to write his name over and over too many times.
They then switched to giving more information about 2027. Harry Styles is the Prime Minister, according to Hank, and we only elect fashion designers now, according to John.
“We are going to solve all of our 2026 problems by the 2027 Project for Awesome, which is currently happening.” -John
Back to “Cars” universe: John asked Hank when there will be a “Cars” movie focusing on the Popemobile.
“That’s a you topic,” said Hank. “Is there meat in the cars? Do they think with meat? How do the Cars piss?”
“I assume out of their gasholes,” replied John.
The community then made songs about this question and decided the “gashole” should be called the “cloacar.”
John mentioned that Joia from Partners In Health would be joining in a few minutes and Hank admitted that Joia may pretend that we are still in 2026 dealing with the problems and that’s okay, we can pretend.
John admitted we are unstuck in time, so sometimes we will be in 2026 and sometimes we will be in 2027 and it’s fine.
John showed the P4A t-shirt and mentioned that it shows a giant squid taking over the Earth “which unfortunately did happen, but we solved for it.”
“That wasn’t a good day. There was that day when the NBA stopped playing games during Covid and you’re like ‘oh, okay, so like, we’re doing this’ and it was like that when the giant squid’s tentacles first came down on New York City,” said Hank.
John asked his son, Henry, what problem he most wanted us to solve on the way to “it’s 2027 and all the problems are solved.” He responded “most of them.”
Then, Dr. Joia Mukherjee from Partners in Health joined the stream to give John an update on all the work PIH has done in the past year. She also told us about the Maternal Center of Excellence in Sierra Leone, which opened for patients that day!
“Hope still has every reason to be in this world,” she told us.
After talking with Dr. Joia, John took over hosting the livestream alone. While he showed off his rainbow wig, Anonymous donated $30,000 which put us over one million dollars!
For reaching $1 million, John was punched by Henry. Despite Henry only punching at 50%, John’s review of the punch was “He’s so powerful.”
While John recovered from the punch, he put on a green wig and Potato came to visit.
John read from “Zombiecorns” and transformed into Silly Ray Cyrus.
Then, John and Hank briefly chatted before Hank took over hosting. When discussing the likelihood that 2027 would be the mascot, John said “that’s the nature of hope, Hank. That we can dream of better days ahead of us.”
When John left, Hank admitted that he was still thinking about “How Do the Cars Piss.” He was then joined by Gary Shaye from Save the Children, who updated us on their work and how the P4A helps them each year.
After talking with Gary, Hank went back to discussing 2027. He said “It’s lovely to be here in the year 2027, when all of our problems have been solved, but, in part, because we traded the ocean with the fish. That doesn’t take that long to explain. That’s easy. It’s 2027 now, we skipped 2026, we fixed all the problems by going into the ocean and giving the fish the land, and that fixed it. Now they have to deal with that. Now they have problems. WE now have fish problems, which are very simple and THEY now have human problems, which are very complicated. And that’s how we fixed it, everybody.”
He went on to tell us that in 2027 there is resonant social media for fish people that is much better than what we currently use. It’s for utility, not just capturing attention. Additionally, Hank explained that Harry Styles became a fashion designer and then the prime minister of England and decided only fashion designers can be elected leaders anymore. Since fashion designers think outside of the box, they solved all our problems by having us move into the ocean.
Then, Hank said one of the truest things about Project for Awesome: “It’s complicated. We’re not sure which bit we’re sticking to.”
As Hank has done for many Projects for Awesome, he had filled balloons with tasks suggested by the community. When we reached donation goals while Hank hosted, he would pop a balloon and do what the task said.
The first balloon told Hank to pop another balloon and do the opposite of whatever it said. The new balloon said “Do the Macarena in total silence with a stern look” which became Riverdance, loudly, while happy.
Because of the balloons, which have sometimes led to him (Lore Keeper's Note: it is not recommended to click that link), chat was concerned and Hank explained this year’s Jarrod rules: Hank would give a 15 minute warning before Jarrod would appear and he would visit for a maximum of 15 minutes. Hank then said, “If you don’t get Jarrod, you get somebody,” which was also concerning.
Of course, Hank then continued to develop the 2027 lore. The giant squid destroyed all of New York City (later we would learn more specifics). We lost a lot of people but we came together as a globe, into the ocean. This conversation also involved Jarrod's existence in 2027.
During this conversation, a Jarrod poll was happening (Jarrod yes vs Jarrod no). Hank said he would call the poll at a specific dollar amount, which led to him calling it while Jarrod was losing, but the poll stayed up a bit longer and “Jarrod yes” won. (Lore Keeper’s Note: I have no idea if this means Jarrod won or lost the poll.) Despite any ending result of the poll, Hank reassured chat that Jarrod is a nighttime animal and would not appear anytime soon.
It was time to pop another balloon! It told Hank to do one push up per balloon popped. Hank did three push ups and commented that he was glad that balloon didn’t happen later.
After a featured video, Hank was replaced by a guest host: BatHank! “Hello, it’s Hank, I mean no, it’s Batman,” he said. BatHank was sent from the future by Prime Minister Harry Styles. He was not the source of the anonymous $30,000 donation (nor was anyone named Bruce, as far as he knows). The chat immediately began singing “We Are All Bat People” (although some changed it to “We Are All BatHank”), which led to BatHank’s discussion of the two perspectives featured in the song. One perspective is that Batman is a rich guy with an affinity for bats (which BatHank admitted is true but he does not like it). The other perspective is that Batman is a metaphor for what the city needs any by “city” he meant ocean.
BatHank is from 2047, he is old (which is why he needs glasses), and he’s learned a lot. Over the last 20 years, he has shifted to doing more of the Alfred stuff now. He is now a metaphor for everyone working together and trying to be heroic in a world that calls for heroism. “Heroism doesn’t look the way you would think. It looks like people working together, doing good, taking small steps that are often unrecognized to make this world a better place… Thank you all for being a part of the heroism of humanity that we do together in small ways and big ways.”
BatHank then gave us some lore about 2047, which is not the same as 2027. He said that in 2047 we are back on the land and underwater. There was another war with the fish and we won. BatHank wasn’t involved in the Fish War. Since we are both underwater and on land, chat asked where the fish had gone. BatHank told us that they are on Mars because they got Mars in the Fish War. As a side note, BatHank told us that he fears carcinisation, which may be why there was no crabulo.us perk this year.
BatHank left us with the wise words “everyone together, no one by themselves” and then Hank returned to play Connections.
Soon Tyler Thrasher joined the stream to show Hank his projects and store, Moonbeam Conservatory.
Then, Tyler asked Hank absurd questions including
“What animal are you a centaur of and are you taking the front half or the back half?” which led to many options being considered including a dolphin, a hyena (Hankena), a kangaroo (Hankaroo). Later Hank asked his family for their choices. His son, Orin, chose back half cat and his wife, Katherine, chose back half bird.
“You are in a fight with one of these two characters, which would you survive best? Stitch with a machete or Donkey Kong with brass knuckles.” Hank didn’t think he had a good chance with either but said he would do better against Stitch. Tyler said Hank is wrong.
Hank told Tyler about 2027. He explained it as all of the problems being fixed, it’s much more relaxing in 2027, everything you can think of we did, there was a war with the fish, they got the land and we got the ocean. Hank said he will not discuss the details of what happened because he did not want to mess up the timeline.
After saying goodbye to Tyler, Hank let Orin choose a balloon to pop for reaching $500,000 donated on Tiltify. The balloon required Hank to order none pizza with left beef over the phone. When Hank called, he told the person taking his order that he appreciated that she didn’t ask questions. She replied that it’s not her business. “They were so normal and cool about it!”
While Hank waited for his pizza, John and his wife, Sarah, took over hosting.
John tried to explain 2027 to Sarah. He said that the giant squid was a unifying force and now all the problems have been solved.
For reaching $1.5 million total raised, John got to shave his mustache before being joined by Danielle Bainbridge.
They had a conversation about writing and how helpful it can be to have a supportive family.
After talking with Danielle, John was left to talk about the joys of 2027 on his own. He said it was a relief to be in a year where all of the problems are solved. He remembered being in 2026 with all of the challenges and threats, but things are better now under the water. The vibes are better, we’re hopeful as a species. “When’s the last time you said ‘things are pretty good in America?’ in February 2027, things are pretty good.”
When Hank returned, he showed us his pizza. It was quickly established that from the box’s angle, this was certainly not left beef. Maybe right beef, maybe bottom beef.
Then, John left for the night and Hank was joined by Travis McElroy and Erika Ishii, who had planned a surprise activity for Hank.
They would each take turns to ask the others to answer a personal question about themselves. If they got it wrong, they had to put on a costume piece and speak in a new accent. As expected, shenanigans ensued.
This was Erika’s first time experiencing Crank Green and they requested art of Hank as a crab. She was sent the lore and a lot of art and he replied, “This is very important to me thank you so much 🥹🦀”
After Travis and Erika left, Hank continued speaking in accents. He attempted a French accent but (as he predicted) it quickly became German. Then, it was time to pop another balloon! It said to speak with a British accent for an hour. Hank said no, he had just spent so much time doing accents. Instead, he would do a British accent until Demi arrived. Hank’s British accent is a combination of many accents. He promised to hit every accent in England.
Luckily, Demi Adejuyigbe soon arrived.
“Hello! Right off the bat, what’s this about?” was Demi’s immediate reaction to Hank’s accent attempts. Hank explained that the balloons have tasks and the last one told him to do a British accent for an hour but his accent keeps traveling. Demi suggested that Hank could get better at his accent by practicing for an hour.
Demi is a British person (who was only there for four years), so he could tell Hank how he was doing. “Terrible.” Demi thought Hank could get cast in Doctor Who, though.
Refocusing on P4A, Demi clarified to chat that we were raising money to buy Hank a pool. Hank described it as a very small pool that only goes down. An abyss pool, Demi called it. It would cost $3 million to get Hank his infinite down pool. While Demi and Hank found innovative ways to describe this pool, chat decided it was a well.
Demi drew concept art of the infinite pool. Currently it was at 400ft, but it could keep increasing with the donations.
Then, Hank explained the 2027 lore to Demi. We fixed all the problems, there was a war with the fish, we won, we got the oceans, they got the land. Demi didn’t think that was a win because we lost our homes. Hank said it was a win because the ocean is way bigger and we brought our homes into the ocean. Everyone in 2027 agreed that it turned out well. Demi, still in 2026, wanted to prevent this future. Hank said that either he killed Demi or Demi died when the giant squid hit New York. Demi said that he understands that he needed to die, since he was fighting against this future. While most guests had fish art made as P4A perks, Demi hadn’t wanted that because he doesn’t want gills. So he had to die.
Hank popped another balloon, which told him to call a random contact in his phone and wish them an excellent year. He called Peter Hollins who didn’t answer, but did join the chat a bit later.
Demi shared the concept video for a song he made for “a Netflix movie that never happened.” While he shared the video with us and sang along, we couldn’t hear any of the music, which was a surreal time for everyone.
After the song, Demi said he had to go prepare for the Squid War. Hank advised him to stay out of New York City, but Demi said he loves it too much.
Hank tried to call a random person again and succeeded in calling Freddie Wong. Then, he handed hosting to Tessa Violet.
Tessa played songs and had people vote on which tattoos she would add to her face. For donation milestones, she added shoes to her head.
Then, the stream was hosted by the Nerdcrafteria Minecraft Server admins. They showed us the under the sea themeing they had done in honor of P4A and took us on a tour of the different areas on the server.
They updated the P4A sign to show that Nerdcrafteria was also in 2027!
And as a fun surprise, everyone on the server was hiding in the anglerfish!
This year, the server held a sea creature competition. People could vote for the winner with a donation on Tiltify. Meanwhile, players on the server played games.
As the admins continued to show us around, they led us through a secret underwater tunnel leading to Dr. Doctor Canhole!!!
Dr. Doctor Canhole was updated for this year’s P4A.
At the same time, the chat continued to work on “How Do The Cars Piss”
When Hank returned, the admins showed him the latest Crank Green creation. He was not enthusiastic about the human teeth.
When it was just Hank again, he was so distracted by popping a balloon and losing the paper that he didn’t realize he had been joined by a special surprise guest.
“Why is there music playing?” asked Hank, still not noticing Beans in Bananaloca!
“What’s happening? What is this?”
When he figured out that Tuna and some of the P4A producers had created a “Livin’ la Vida Loca” parody called “Beans in Bananaloca” it became a wonderful dance party!
Since Hank couldn’t find the task from the last balloon, he popped another. It told him to read a Shakespearean sonnet in a silly voice. Chat requested Ol’ Trash Water, so Hank quickly transformed.
Ol’ Trash Water read a sonnet and then updated us on his life. All four of his walls fell down, which is why his son was named Ol’ Fallen Wall. Because time passes differently out in the country, his son is 17 now and heading off to college, aka the crack where two rocks come together. Ol’ Trash Water indicates that that location makes time go faster. “You spend too much time there, you’ll find yourself 10 years older in 10 days.” He also said he saw a duck the size of a man there with a small boat that looked like it might fly through the rocks by itself. “There’s something going on down there, it goes ‘beep beep.’” Chat believes this “duck the size of a man” to be Dr. Billiam Feathersby.
Then Ol’ Trash Water left and Hank briefly returned, before being replaced by Jarrod. (Lore Keeper’s Note: Information about Jarrod time is too cursed to be included here and will only be in the “Cursed Beyond Cursed” Jarrod section.)
Chat was concerned about facing him without his sworn enemy, Brennan Lee Mulligan, to defend us but we made it through.
When Hank returned, it was time to pop another balloon. The balloon said Jarrod. Hank said no and popped another balloon. This one told him to play a song.
Chat requested a few songs including “This Year” by The Mountain Goats, which led to more 2027 lore from Hank. He told us that after the giant squid attack, we all came together as a species. Manhattan and Brooklyn are gone, but some of Queens survived. Hank insisted that we have to let the giant squid destroy New York City so we can have a true Fish War.
To end the night, Hank rolled for Loca and got a cucumber stuffed with Nerds gummy clusters, Worcestershire sauce, and sweetened condensed milk. Hank decided this was a bad combination all together but the Nerds gummy clusters in sweetened condensed milk are good.
Saturday morning’s stream began with John and Stan playing Fortnite as pacifists. While they played and tried to survive in “friendship bubbles,” the total donated reached $2 million! It took John and Stan a bit to notice, since they were focused on the game.
John chose to hide in a fern from a “bad guy” and then gave a speech about how we are being forced to hate each other but we could choose to love each other.
John was then killed.
Stan hid in a fern.
“Stay in the fern, Stan! Stay in the fern!” encouraged John. They got second place! “That fern kept us alive for minutes!” said John.
“That fern strategy was tight!” said Stan.
As the stream’s quality began to deteriorate (possibly because John was also watching AFC Wimbledon), they continued to play. In one round, John played alone and placed 92nd. Then they played another round together and used their fern strategy.
“The shrub is where I belong” remarked John before placing 4th, “shout out to that fern.”
This adoration of the fern led to chat declaring this P🪴A or P “fern” A.
John and Stan took a break from playing games to chat with Phil Plait. They discussed aurora, meteorites, and other fun space things.
Meanwhile, in the AFC Wimbledon game, Marcus Browne (the first player paid for by John’s streams on JohnsChannel) scored a goal!
Then, John and Stan switched to playing FIFA as AFC Wimbledon.
After the game, they handed hosting back to Hank.
Hank updated John on the new 2027 lore and needed to clarify that he has multiple British accents (John had disparaged Hank’s accent before he arrived).
“I have every British accent and that’s why it’s bad.”
“Oh, so you can do Newcastle?”
“I can’t do it on purpose!”
After John left, Hank let Orin try a Nerds gummy cluster. Orin rated it “a juicy 8.5” which led chat to request more Orin ratings in the future.
Hank was then joined by Alexis Nikole Nelson, who was fully aware of the 2027 lore. “We’re coming to you from the future, don’t worry about it, we handled it,” said Alexis. “2027, the world is beautiful.”
Alexis led Hank and the chat through a game of “Poison or Snack.”
After the game, Hank was joined by Tom Lum, Caroline Roper, and Ella Hubber from Let’s Learn Everything. Tom surprised us with his own Banana Loca!
They let Hank take a break and started a poll of what activity they should do first. Unsurprisingly, Banana Fuego was selected first. Tom first made a Banana Fuego by poking a hole in a banana and filling it with hot sauce in the 2024 P4A. This year, he tried to use the Banana Loca.
The Let’s Learn Everything team took turns naming as many elements as they could. The first person to fail had to eat hot sauce.
Tom offered to write tattoo suggestions submitted via donations on his arm in sharpie. The first suggestion was “tuberculosis sux.” Later, there was a suggestion for “party worm” which became a favorite of the chat and hosts.
They played the Newly Pod Game and some games from Our Findings Show. Caroline and Ella promised to get party worm tattoos if we reached $875,000 on Tiltify. A $10,000 donation from anonymous helped us reach that goal while they played Sideways (definitely not Lateral) and made a song from chat’s suggestions.
Soon Hank and Katherine took over hosting and Katherine showed some of the little arts she had made as perks.
Then, Hank was joined by Jacob, Julia, and Nathan from Drawfee.
Drawfee continued their tradition of illustrating some key phrases from the stream so far to turn into sticker perks.
Nathan drew the party worm questioning “would we still party if I was a worm?”
Jacob wanted to draw Project Fern Awesome but chose not to draw a fern. He said he might “fern it up later.” He chose one of the quotes from John and Stan, “It’s okay, I’m in a fern.”
Julia was inspired by Hank’s “none pizza bottom beef” from the previous night. As she drew, Jacob pointed out that Julia had image searched “beef” for this. She countered that Jacob had image searched “fern” and then proceeded to not draw a fern.
Some people named this the “pizzow.” Nathan suggested that the guy in the fern was hiding from this.
Shortly after Drawfee left, we reached $2.5 million total.
To celebrate, Hank popped a balloon that told him to eat burrata like a soup dumpling. Hank did not fully understand the assignment but he learned that he likes burrata.
Hank showed some possible Earth flag designs and John popped in to add commentary. John said that 2027 has a lot more art being made.
Then, it was time to pop another balloon. It was Roll for Loca! Hank decided to save that for later when he had the time to do it, so he popped another balloon. It was another Roll for Loca. Saving that for later as well, he realized what the task he lost earlier must have been: see what a Nintendo Switch cartridge tastes like.
It tasted bad. Very bad.
While Hank recovered from that, Jessi Knudsen Castañeda from Animal Wonders and Nicole Sweeney hosted.
Jessi started by showing us Stella, a white-bellied parrot.
Then Mellon the opossum painted this year’s animal art. It was his first time painting!
While Mellon painted, a discussion of butt vs legs began. Jessi declared that it depends on the animal. Nicole said that she fundamentally disagrees with Hank, butt is not always legs. Jessi offered the example of flamingos, where butt is clearly different from legs. Then, we hit $1 million donated on Tiltify.
After Mellon’s painting time, Jessi showed us more animals. First was Simon, the green-cheeked parakeet.
Then, the sugar gliders Cheeba, Nori, and Wasabi.
Next, we met Otis the anteater.
And Oppie the gargoyle gecko.
While Jessi showed us the animals, Nicole updated her that we are in 2027 and live underwater. Jessi informed us that poop is not an issue underwater!
Finally, one of Jessi’s employees, Hannah, showed us Scarlet the red-and-green macaw!
After the animal fun, John returned to hosting with Sarah and their daughter, Alice. Sarah and Alice had made art together as perks. And they both wrote the names of donors on John’s face in sharpie.
After becoming fully covered in names, John was joined by Charlotte McDonnell.
Charlotte brought many British ingredients and had people vote in polls to build the most British sandwich. In the end, it was made of crumpets, HP sauce, Skips, Maltesers, and mushy peas.
Then Hank returned and he and John celebrated the news that the first baby had been born at the Maternal Center of Excellence!
Hank celebrated by popping a balloon and got Roll for Drink, which he saved for later. In the meantime, he did one of his Roll for Locas. He rolled a Twinkie filled with cottage cheese, maple syrup, and peanut butter. Orin helped him make it and they both tried it and liked it. Orin ranked it an 8.9/10 and Hank commented that he could still taste the Nintendo Switch cartridge (it had been 4 hours), so any other flavors are good.
Soon, Destin from Smarter Every Day joined the stream and Hank updated him on it being 2027.
They chatted and had generally chill vibes while Destin signed his fish prints.
After that, Taylor, Miriam, and their dog, Darcy, hosted the stream.
They ran a poll for which bandana Darcy should wear (shells won) and offered Darcy veggies to cronch at donation goals. The highest donation during their shift earned the title of “Carrot Captain” with the understanding that it would be quickly replaced by a new captain. At chat’s suggestion, they also added “Cucumber Captain.”
They still had Detergent’nt from the 2021 P4A (all of the powder has been used but they kept the container).
After much discussion with chat, a poll was created to decide the official name of the carrot comrades/fans of Darcy’s cronching. The options were Prolecarriot, Carristocracy, and Carrot Crew. Overwhelmingly, Prolecarriot won.
There were also polls for deciding Darcy’s Pokemon (Rockruff) and building Taylor and Miriam’s drinks (final result was pigvar (a sour blueberry candy) and 1 scoop of P4Atorade (instead of 2 or 3)).
Taylor and Miriam decorated with sea ferns for P🪴A and our under the sea life here in 2027.
Miriam acknowledged that, while much of NYC was destroyed, Taylor, Miriam, and Darcy all survived and moved underwater.
When it was time to build their drink, Taylor learned that “scoop” meant scoop, not spoonful. Everyone was happy they only had to use one scoop.
Miriam’s sibling made Darcy and carrot cookies for the humans to cronch if their final donation goal was achieved.
When it was reached, they transformed from bats into sharks for the CRONCH.
Darcy was given a Shark Attack as her final treat of the shift.
Then, it was time for Hank to take over for the late night hours.
Hank surprised us with a video from Brennan Lee Mulligan, who couldn’t join live this year.
In an effort to raise funds quickly, Hank suggested cutting Jarrod into pieces to sell. Some people wanted to own a part of Jarrod. Many were excited that Jarrod would be gone. A poll asked donors to vote on if Jarrod should be cut up and sold or if cut up Jarrod would be even more cursed. It was decided that cutting Jarrod into pieces would be more cursed than letting him be.
We reached $3 million raised in total! Hank popped a balloon, which said special guest. Hank decided to catch up on his Roll for Loca and Roll for Drink first. For his Roll for Loca, he rolled a banana (after rolling a Twinkie and a cucumber but he had done those so he re-rolled) filled with vienna sausages, liquid smoke, and queso.
Hank took a bite and said “As I have said before, it is very important to me that I keep my heart open, no matter what the ingredients are, to the possibility that it might be good. Because I have found times when I Loca something that seems completely absurd and I eat it and it’s actually okay. This is not one of those times.” Hank then took a second bite.
Through conversation with chat, we stumbled into a new catchphrase for Project for Awesome. P4A 2026: Be Unacceptable
Hank then admitted that his favorite P4A mascot of all time was Beanie Sandfurbs.
He gave us more information about 2027. It turned out that 2026 Hank left 2026 to go to 2027, so 2026 Hank can’t come visit since he no longer exists. Also, we grew lungs on our backs to go underwater.
Then, it was time for our first ever Roll for Drink, which is the same as Roll for Loca but without the stuffable thing. Hank rolled peeps, vanilla, and pudding. It was not quite a drink but he did his best.
While waiting for the special guest, Hank played “Being Alive.”
Hank brought back the Awesome People Board, where donations of $100 or more went on the middle/bottom of the board, donations of $250 or more went on the top of the board, and donations of $500 or more went on his face.
This inspired quite a few donations and Hank needed to pop two balloons! The first was to play a song, which he had just done. The second was “weird fruit” which meant Hank did a taste test of a box of fruit he had been sent without knowing what most of it was. It was quickly established that a fruit being “weird” to Hank was not a negative thing, he just had not gotten to experience them before.
“I don’t know what this is!” Hank said, while trying so many new fruits!
Then, he put Glennnn in charge while he found the special guest.
The special guest was Dr. Billiam Feathersby!
Dr. Feathersby reminded us that he is not from around here. He is, however, a big fan of Garfield and Sabrina Carpenter. He was out of breath because it was a long walk from the crevasse between two rocks. That’s where they have a Human Education Center, teaching advanced topics including quantum dynamics, physical chemistry, and chemical physically. Dr. Billiam Feathersby began honking, but it was never explained why.
He told the chat not to worry about who he is or where he’s from, it’s not nearby. He didn’t have great news for us this year, but Project for Awesome is always one of the things (like Garfield and Sabrina Carpenter) that makes him think humans are worth saving.
In the international (or possibly intergalactic) “who should die right now” race, we aren’t at the top but we’re not at the bottom. He acknowledged that it can be hard because it’s not great out here and it’s hard to see the whole picture. They have seen worse and they’ve seen better.
Dr. Feathersby reached under his skin to scratch an itch. “That’s one of the things that my race can do. We can scratch our skeletons. I know that’s gonna seem weird to you, but it’s normal to us, I promise,” he said.
Dr. Billiam Feathersby saw a comment in chat asking if he is a human duck or a duck human. He said he is neither. He is an extraterrestrial. Some convergent evolution happened, but he is not human or duck.
Chat asked more questions. Dr. Feathersby didn’t know any Hank Green songs, but he did know Howard the Duck. It turned out Howard the Duck was also from the High Downy Council of Mallardia but he just went off on his own. His work is frowned upon, but as a person, Dr. Billiam Feathersby likes him.
Dr. Feathersby was here just to say that humanity has lasted another two years (since it’s 2027 now). “We’ve decided once again to not destroy the Earth. It would not be a big deal for us to destroy the Earth. It would not be difficult and we would not particularly mourn you. But Garfield? A plus. Good work on that. And, you know, there’s a lot of good pop music, I’ve gotta say! You guys are good at that! You guys are way better than I think you think you are at pop music. It’s a big hit throughout the galaxy, it’s like huge. It’s huge. You’re doing great.”
He then became perturbed by the suggestion that he is Honk Green. “No, this is not Honk Green! That’s a separate thing! That’s a totally separate thing!”
He went on to say, “I just wanted to say, you know, it can feel like things are going bad. And certainly they could be going bad. But everybody’s trying and we see it! We see the effort! Certainly, some people aren’t trying, some people are negative trying, but a lot of people are trying. We see it! And so we’ve decided not to kill you, once again. And again, if we wanted to we could. We wouldn’t even have to think about it for very long. That’s the good news from Dr. Billiam!”
He gave directions on how to get to Crevasse College, past Ol’ Trash Water’s farm.
After Dr. Billiam Feathersby said goodbye, Hank returned and played “Bat People” and “All Star” for us to end the night.
Sunday morning’s stream began with Rosianna. She had painted a self care bunny in space that was available as a print perk.
Rosianna admitted that she was not caught up on the lore. All she knew was the “giant squid of peace” got rid of Demi and all of New York.
While she chatted with the chat, Rosianna painted a self care bunny in a fern.
Then, she talked with John, who was Silly Ray Cyrus with a bandana and a suit (Suited Ray Cyrus, as the chat named him).
Alice joined John to do his make up while two polls ran: this year’s mascot (options: P🪴A, Party Worm, 2027, Non-fungible Jarrod, DogTrainOwlCat (from one of Let’s Learn Everything’s games), and BatHank) and the best thing about 2027 so far (options: living underwater, the lungs we have on our backs, the fish have the land, 6-7 being over, all human problems are solved, Harry Styles is Prime Minister).
“The 19th Project for Awesome, we’ve been doing this or something like it ever since 2007. Long, beautiful livestreams full of silliness and joy and hope and that’s what it’s all about,” said John.
We soon reached $3.5 million, and John celebrated as “John Orange.”
Then, a fun moment happened. Hank was scheduled to join John at 10am Eastern but John thought Hank was scheduled for 11. When Hank told John he would be late, John was sad. Instead, Hank joined at 10:15 (late, as he said), but John thought he was 45 minutes early and was THRILLED.
Chat quickly agreed that we would not tell John and spoil his fun. The lower thirds, however, may have spoiled it for him.
Hank posted on Threads to try to get more people involved in P4A. He then kept referencing “my viral thread.” He also recorded a Vlogbrothers video live and edited and posted it on stream (impressively, this only took him 4 minutes). Hank wanted to push P4A to new heights.
Chat still had questions for Hank about Jarrod’s reference to “vibe coding a pretzel factory” the night before (as seen in the Cursed beyond Cursed section, which is not recommended). Hank explained that the factory made pretzels that were hollow that they called pretzel tubes. Jarrod thought that was a new kind of platform. The pretzel tubes are a new fiber optic.
Then, this became the biggest Project for Awesome ever! John and Hank each celebrated with confetti.
“We don’t have a match anymore, we aren’t going to get to $4 million,” said Hank, underestimating Nerdfighteria.
Quite quickly after that, we reached $3.9 million.
“$72,000 away from $4 million, a completely unprecedented number in the history of the Project for Awesome! I think we’re gonna get there, we’re probably not gonna get there on the livestream, but I think the dream is alive and we will probably get there eventually,” said John.
A few minutes later, he commented, “There is a real possibility that in the next 12 minutes we will raise the $12,000 we need to get to 4 million.”
Soon everyone’s attention was on the excellent graph comparing donation rates for P4A’s as we watched this year’s line approach $4 million. Glennnn watched from Hank’s shoulder.
We did it! $4 million donated! John did a happy dance while Hank used a confetti cannon.
“It was not one person, it was everyone together,” remarked Hank, seemingly unaware that he was echoing a phrase from BatHank.
Katherine collected confetti into a bandana and launched it, surprising Hank.
And the stream ended with a final comment from the Vlogbrothers account.
At the end of the livestream, $1,791,881.50 had been donated on Tiltify, which made a total of $4,052,443.80 along with 57,592 votes. Since voting and donating was open for a few more days, the final amounts were $1,953,419.09 donated on Tiltify, $4,216,082.19 total, and 80,812 votes.
The final poll results were P🪴A for mascot and all human problems are solved as the best thing about 2027 so far.
