Solar Cup is an education program that is sponsored by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The OA Solar Cup club focuses on expanding students' interests in STEM related activities, specifically in the area of water conservation and awareness. The club gives students an authentic experience to become immersed in a team driven design and development project.
Description: The Solar Cup club works on building solar-powered boats and racing those boats in an end-of-year tournament. However, due to COVID, rather than having an in-person tournament, team members have had the opportunity to attend a virtual tournament that allows competitors to apply hands-on skills in engineering and public service message (video) challenges during club meetings. The Solar Cup club will also offer diverse activities centered around water awareness in addition to participating in this tournament.
