Select the following stops on your organ:
Great: Diapason 8 (Principal 8) and Octave 4 (Prestant 4)
Pedal: Diapason 16 (Principal 16) and Octave 8
Watch the demonstration video for the hymn and practice all parts together as shown.
For each practice step, play at least five repetitions, focusing on:
Correct fingering
Perfect legato
Precise releases of repeated notes
Independence of line
ABOVE ALL: Practice slowly enough to stay in control!
PRACTICE STEPS: Practice putting everything together and work up to the tempo range of the hymn. Make sure you are listening for clean lifts between repeated notes, a clean legato touch between moving notes, and independence between all voices.
REGISTRATION PLAN: Once you have learned your 3-part hymn, do the following:
Hymn Registration Plan:
Design a registration (combination of stops) that reflects the mood and meaning of the hymn text. Be intentional with your choices and use correct organ registration principles to enhance the musical and spiritual impact.
Include at least one registration change between verses to highlight contrast, emphasize a shift in the text, or build intensity.
