Finger Independence
Lesson 1
Lesson 1
A printable pdf copy of all the exercises for this course is available HERE.
Goal:
Develop precise, isolated control of each finger to move or hold notes independently without affecting others.
Instructions:
Select the following stops on your organ:
Great: Diapason 8 (Principal 8) and Octave 4 (Prestant 4)
Watch the demonstration video for each exercise and practice the technique as shown.
Hand Position:
Keep fingers curved and relaxed.
Rest all fingers lightly on the keys, even those not in use.
Avoid tension in the wrists, forearms, or shoulders.
Practice slowly at first.
Hold notes with designated fingers while others move.
Ensure inactive fingers stay in contact—not collapsing or lifting unnecessarily.
Increase tempo only when accuracy and control are consistent.
Daily Practice Recommendation:
2–3 minutes per day is sufficient. Short, focused practice over time will strengthen finger independence and overall manual technique.
