Legato
Lesson 1
Goal:
Play with a perfect legato touch on the organ—each note should begin precisely as the previous one is released, creating a smooth, connected, and seamless line.
Instructions:
Watch the practice video for each exercise.
Listen carefully for smooth, uninterrupted connections between notes.
Select the following stops on your organ:
Great: Diapason 8 (Principal 8) and Octave 4 (Prestant 4)
Watch the demonstration video for each exercise and practice the technique shown.
Hand position:
Keep fingers naturally curved and relaxed.
Rest all fingers lightly on the keys.
Avoid tension in the wrists, arms, and shoulders.
Practice slowly at first, gradually increasing tempo as control improves.
Follow the exact fingerings. Correct fingering is essential for true legato.
Aim for perfect legato—no note overlaps, no breaks between notes. The only exception is repeated notes, where a slight break is appropriate.
Daily Practice Recommendation:
2–3 minutes daily. Focus on control and connection. Gradually increase tempo as fluency develops.
