Abstract

Once Ptolemy (the first) asked Archimedes whether there is any shorter way to learn geometry other than (Euclid’s) Elements. Archimedes answered that there isn’t any royal road to geometry. Now if you ask the same question about learning LaTeX, there is indeed an affirmative answer to it. In the talk I’ll talk about LyX which is more of a word processors like MS Word, Pages or OfficeOrg and is really very user friendly when it comes to writing LaTeX documents. We will see how LyX can save a lot of time with the help of custom shortcuts, the way it renders equations and so on. The best thing is LyX is available for FREE for popular OS’s (MacOS, Windows, Linux etc.)! The presentation will be about hands on experience with LyX and not just a talk. I will focus on using LyX for writing paper and dissertation. I assure you that learning LaTeX is lot more fun and easier than you had ever thought of. I will try to defend this thesis in the talk! See you there!
