Superconductors and Superfluids: conventional, unconventional and beyond

Abstract

This talk is intended to provide an overview of the phenomena of superconductivity and superfluidity. Starting with the fundamental criteria based on which the superconducting materials are characterized, a composite theoretical picture will be discussed which captures the essential physics of a plethora of superconducting systems, viz. the BCS-BEC crossover. Going beyond the stringent material parameter constraints of the solid state systems, the advent of the ultracold atomic gases have provided us with an unprecedented possibility of engineering exotic superfluid states. In this talk the speaker would touch upon some of those possibilities.

About the Speaker

Madhuparna is a theoretical physicist, working presently in the area of strongly correlated electron systems. She had carried out her doctoral research at the Department of Physics, University of Pune, on high temperature superconductors. Following her Ph.D, She had served as a research associate at S. N. Bose national centre for basic sciences, Kolkata. This was succeeded by a post doctoral research tenure at Harish Chandra research institute, Allahabad. At present she is working at Department of Physics, IIT Madras as an institute post doctoral fellow.
