Cheese Scones
Ingredients:
200g Self Raising flour
50g hard block butter
50g cheddar cheese
100ml milk
Method:
1.Heat the oven to 200C
2.Put flour into a large mixing bowl
3.‘Rub in’ the butter/ margarine
4.Stir in the grated cheese
5.SLOWLY add the milk
6.Mix together to form a soft but not too sticky dough
7.Turn out onto floured surface
8.Pat into a round 2.5 cm thick.
9.Use a biscuit cutter to stamp out rounds- put onto Lined baking sheet.
10.Lightly knead dough back together and repeat until used up.
11.Brush with a little milk
12.Bake in the Hot oven for 12-15 min until golden and well risen.
13.Cool on a wire rack
Variations:
To make plain sweet scones add 50g caster sugar.
To make fruit scones add 50g of caster sugar and 50g sultanas.
Other ideas:
You could also add sundried tomatoes to cheese scones or herbs such as chives / oragano.
For sweet scones you could add other dried fruits such as raisins / apricots.
