About: The Advanced Coronary Unit located on the 7th floor of MultiCare Deaconess Hospital in the patient care tower. 7th Tower is an acute inpatient nursing care unit serving the nursing care needs of acute coronary patient population where care is provided on a 24-hour/day basis. The unit is comprised of 31 rooms, of which 27 are private and four are semi-private. All rooms are equipped with wall suction, oxygen, patient call system, emergency outlets, and a Code Blue button. A central nursing work station is located on the South West corner of the unit. This central area is designated as the area in which the unit secretary and the charge nurse functions. Additionally, there are three other work stations on the other corners of the unit, equipped with computers, telephones, etc. There is a secured med room, and a tele-monitoring room in the center of the unit. A visitor’s lounge is located near the North East corner of the unit. The types of patients served on the unit include the following:
• Myocardial infarction
• Rule out MI
• Primary arrhythmias
• Pre and post open-heart surgery patients
• Vascular surgery patients
• Coronary artery disease
• Congestive heart failure
• Cath lab interventional patients
• Stroke patients with cardiac involvement
• Neurological surgery patients requiring more acute monitoring for either cardiac or respiratory reasons .

About: The Ortho/General/Surgical Units are located on the 1st floor at MultiCare Valley Hospital. These units are comprised of 16 beds, 12 private and 2 double rooms. Work closely with clinical staff to provide basic patient care to surgical patients. The most common surgeries are Knee, Hip, Neck, and Lumbar Fusion. Note this is a new department and we will be asking scholars who enroll in this department to assist with building the framework of the program in this unit. Participation in this department will require enrollment in the Patient Experience Ambassador Program. We will be asking for you to complete a minimum of 48 hours with the option of completing across two rotations or 6 months.
