Health Scholar: Scholars must be at least 18 years old and have completed a GED or high school diploma by the application deadline for the entering cohort in which they wish to enroll. Students should be certified in BLS CPR through the American Heart Association. This information must be listed in the scholar’s application. We do not have any prerequisite course requirements.
Junior Health Scholar: Students must be 16-18 years old and enrolled in High School. There are no prerequisite course requirements.
**Note: High school students participating in a Running Start program at a local college can join COPE as a Health Scholar (without a High School diploma/GED) rather than as a Junior Health Scholar as long as the student is 18+ years old. These students are enrolled in college courses and therefore meet the qualifications for the Health Scholar program.
Application: Complete a series of basic questions about yourself, as well as complete your application essay questions. Essay questions should be between 300 and 500 words in length. They include:
Prompt #1: Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, or risk that you have taken and its impact on you.
Prompt #2: How does the Health Scholar program fit into your overall career goal?
Prompt #3: How would you utilize your role as a Health Scholar to improve the patient experience in a hospital or clinic setting?*
Prompt #4: It is often said that what you put into this program is what you get out of it. What do you plan on investing into this program and how will you follow through with your initial goals?*
Payment: Complete the required application fee of $20. This stage is necessary before proceeding to the next required task.
Demographics Form: Please provide basic information, such as your address & past employment.
