12 Days of Techmas
AI Edition - Day 10
Notebook LM
On the tenth day of Techmas, I am sharing a resource that can become your personal research assistant and will use your hand-selected resources to help you interact with these sources and make connections with the information.
What is Notebook LM?
It is a research assistant that will help you understand information about sources by summarizing facts, explaining complex ideas, brainstorming new connections, creating personalized guides, responding with citations, and creating conversations between two AI hosts discussing your sources.
Once you have uploaded your sources, now is when the magic happens! This is what my Creating Prompts for AI Image Generation Notebook looks like to begin. I have uploaded 4 sources including my own Google Slides file.
How Do I Add Sources? and What Kinds of Sources Can I Add?
In the center of the screen you have a Chat feature. This allows you to interact with the resources you have uploaded.
On the Right Side of the screen you have Studio, which is one of my favorite parts of Notebook LM. This starts with a Audio Overview that is just like a Podcast on your sources! There are notes, this is where you can create a study guide, timeline or a custom note. You will also see a list of any notes you add in this section.
I love being able to Customize the Podcast so that it focuses on the specifics from the sources that I want it to.
I am excited to show you some examples of what you can do with the resources you upload to Notebook LM! Up first, creating a Study Guide
Another example is when I asked the Chat to "Create a Lesson Plan."
I know what you are thinking....how can this help me?
What can I do with Notebook LM!
Teachers Can Use Notebook LM to:
Create study guides and summaries:
Upload course materials like articles or textbook chapters and generate concise summaries or study guides for students to review key concepts.
Generate discussion questions:
Ask Notebook LM to create thought-provoking questions based on a reading or lecture to facilitate deeper classroom discussions.
Analyze student feedback:
Upload student notes or feedback from surveys to identify common areas of confusion and tailor instruction accordingly.
Craft interactive lectures:
Incorporate AI-generated questions, summaries, or even role-play scenarios into presentations to enhance student engagement.
Develop research-based assignments:
Guide students through research projects by uploading relevant articles and using Notebook LM to formulate focused research questions.
Create personalized learning materials:
Generate targeted practice questions, flashcards, or quizzes based on individual student needs.
Develop FAQs for course content:
Create a list of frequently asked questions about a topic to serve as a reference point for students.
Summarize complex topics:
Use Notebook LM to provide concise summaries of intricate concepts, particularly helpful for students with learning differences.
Generate audio summaries:
Create audio versions of course materials for students who prefer listening to reading, allowing for on-the-go review.
Facilitate collaborative learning:
Set up shared notebooks where students can contribute sources and collectively generate summaries for group projects.
Assess course content quality:
Analyze existing course materials to identify potential biases or gaps in information and make adjustments accordingly.
Design differentiated instruction:
Tailor learning materials based on student abilities by generating different levels of complexity in practice questions
or explanations.
Want to earn CEUs for participating in this year's 12 Days of Techmas? It is easy!
Each day there will be a task to complete based on the tool for that day. Complete the Form below and share your completed task. At the end of the 12 Days of Techmas you will receive a certificate for the days you participated in. If you complete all 12 tasks you can earn 3 hours of renewal credit.
Your Day 10 task is to upload 2-3 sources into Notebook LM. Ask it questions about the sources, create a study guide or create a podcast.
To get credit for today's activity, create a document and share what type sources you uploaded to Notebook LM and how you interacted with these sources? Did you ask it questions? Did you have it create a study guide? Did you have it generate a podcast? How could you use this in your job? preparing for classes? etc.
To submit your Day 10 task, complete the 12 Days of Techmas CEU Form
Don't have time to work on today's task? That's okay! You can work on these throughout the holiday break and January.
