12 Days of Techmas
Day 7
Sharing with Google
On the seventh day of Techmas, Ms. D is sharing her quick tips and tricks for sharing files with Google.
Have you ever shared a file and realized that someone is editing your master copy? or you have 100 access requests for a file? These tips will help save you from headaches when you are sharing files using Google Tools!
This is a question I get all the time! What is the best way to share my files.....
....so people have their own copy?
....so they can interact with a Bitmoji classroom?
....so they can't edit my master file?
Force a Copy
This is for those times you want people to have a "copy" of your file. That way they can edit and manipulate their own version. This is great for activities for students, for example, drag-and-drop activities, interactive notes, presentation templates, and more!
Here is an example of what this looks like!

Preview and Preview Minimal
These two options are great when you don't want people to see the entire edit window within Google. They just see the document or slides within the browser window.
I use this one when I am sharing slide presentations where I don't want participants to have a toolbar, but they can still move around from slide to slide.
This is the mode I use when I want participants to click certain places on the screen. The tool bar is missing from the bottom. This is great for Interactive Slides, bitmoji classrooms, gameboards, etc.
Here is an example of slides using Preview Mode
Publish to Web
Publish to Web is another option with your file. This is great when you have slide shows you just want to scroll. And a plus is that if you update the slides, then you can just click refresh on the browser and the slides are updated without having to send a new link!
These are great for announcements and can be embedded on websites! And all your links still work!
I use "publish to web" when I need to have a slide show that loops and for single slide Interactive Classrooms (think Bitmoji classrooms). See an example below from Fire Prevention Week
Want to earn CEUs for participating in this year's 12 Days of Techmas? It is easy!
Each day there will be a task to complete based on the tool for that day. Complete the Form below and share your completed task. At the end of the 12 Days of Techmas you will receive a certificate for the days you participated in. You have the chance to earn up to 3 hours of Technology credit.
Pick a Google Doc or Google Slides
Select one of the share options shared today and try it out. How could you use these different options with classes?
To get credit for today - Open a document and copy the link to your file using one of the above methods (Force a Copy, Preview, Preview Minimal or Publish to Web) into the document. Upload that document to the CEU Form.
To submit your Day 7 task, complete the 12 Days of Techmas CEU Form
Don't have time to work on today's task? That's okay! You can work on these throughout the holiday break and January.
