12 Days of Techmas
AI Edition - Day 1
Prompt Writing
On this first day of Techmas, let's start with one of the most important elements to effectively interact with AI tools....understanding how to write an effective prompt.
Whether you are new to using AI or an old pro, being able to write an effective prompt will make a difference in the outcome you recieve from the AI tool.
The first thing we need to do is stop thinking about AI prompts like we are doing a Google Search! They need to be more detailed, give context, and set the stage for what we are wanting as a result. And remember....if you don't like the results, you can revise your prompt.
Check out these tips and strategies to help improve your prompt writing
Sometimes the results you get aren't what you expected. The plus is that you can always revise your prompt and try again! You can also ask it questions, tell it "I like this part, but can you change this" Remember you won't annoy the AI tool by asking it questions or revising your prompt multiple times.
No matter what the results are, be sure that you check your responses EVERY time!
The CRAFT Power Prompt model is a great way to make sure you write an effective prompt. By following this model you will set the stage so the AI tool understands better what you are wanting.
Want to earn CEUs for participating in this year's 12 Days of Techmas? It is easy!
Each day there will be a task to complete based on the tool for that day. Complete the Form below and share your completed task. At the end of the 12 Days of Techmas you will receive a certificate for the days you participated in. If you complete all 12 tasks you can earn 3 hours of renewal credit.
Your first task is to practice writing a prompt that you can use to create an activity to use with students. This can be a lesson plan, an interactive activity, designing a research project, brainstorming discussion questions, etc. Use the CRAFT Power Prompt model as a guide to assist you in writing an effective AI Prompt.
To get credit for today's task create a document and answer the following:
Share the prompt you wrote using the CRAFT Power Prompt Model
Share what AI tool you used to test your prompt (you can use any tool - some I like are MagicSchool.AI, Perplexity, Gemini, Co-Pilot, ChatGPT, etc.)
Reflect on the response you received from your prompt. Did you get what you were looking for? How accurate was it? Would you need to make many tweaks? Did you need to revise your prompt and resubmit it? How could you use this in the future?
To submit your Day 1 task, complete the 12 Days of Techmas CEU Form
Don't have time to work on today's task? That's okay! You can work on these throughout the holiday break and January.
