Downloads
1. Use 64 bit ubunto (download iso file)
2. sudo apt-get install gfortran (install fortran 77 and 90)
3.svn co https://svn.mcs.anl.gov/repos/nek5/ nek5_svn (downloading the CFD solver Nek5000)
4. Install and download Visit here: https://wci.llnl.gov/codes/visit/
5. sudo apt-get install mpich2 ( Need the mpif77 )
6. sudo apt-get install tcsh (This is NEEDED for visit to translate for nek5000 files)
To run the files
1. ./makenek q4 (Creates Nek5000 output file)
2. ./nekb q4 ( Executes the file)
3. ./visnek q4 (this translates to VIsIT visulaization software)
4. ./visit (this opens visit after you download it and install it similar to Nek5000. Need to open it in the terminal).
After installing these 6 things you can start compiling on your computer!

Final Technical Paper Submission Deadline
(for paper competition only)
Download the application form which contains the instructions on submitting your paper.
Eligibility
Must be a SHPE Member
Must be enrolled as a graduate or undergraduate student in Fall 2012.
The topic of the technical paper must be related to the technical fields of engineering and science.
Awards
All students with abstracts accepted to participate in the competition will receive a COMPLEMENTARY conference registration fee and a travel stipend to cover transportation.
Monetary awards will be presented to the first-, second-, and third-prize winners in each category.
Selection Criteria
Abstracts and technical papers will be reviewed and judged by a committee on the basis of the following
criteria:
Originality
Social impact
Completeness
General Guidelines
There are two different competitions: the Technical Paper Competition and the Technical Poster Competition.
To be considered for either competition a student must submit an abstract electronically by the abstract deadline. Students may request an abstract be considered for the technical paper competition, the technical poster competition or either competition.
Students selected to compete in the technical paper competition must:
Submit a paper (5 pages) by the deadline.
Present technical work orally to the competition judges.
Students selected to compete in the technical poster competition must:
Bring a poster to the SHPE meeting and be at the poster to discuss the work and answer questions during the competition.
All competitors in the Technical Paper or Technical Poster competitions are required to attend the GEM GRAD Lab (for undergraduate competitors) or the Graduate Institute (for graduate competitors) at the SHPE 2012 meeting.
Students are encouraged to submit abstracts based on work they performed
during Summer 2012.
