There are fourteen types of magic learned in schools: Water magic, ice magic, fire magic, air magic, electric magic, terra magic, ground magic, crystal magic, flower magic, clairvoyance, foresight magic, psychometry magic, mind reading magic, and telepathy magic. Besides what's taught in schools, there are many other magic things, like necromancy and shape-shifting.
Most people are naturally born with one magic ability, but they may learn more than one, as many do. A lot of magic users learn these powers through familiars that essentially "give" them the powers that they wouldn't be able to learn on their own, for example, a magic user learning fire magic as a second ability may be able to use their familiar to breathe fire. Magic users will be able to start using their magic when they go through puberty, and from then on they will learn how to use it in school. For someone to be born with full magic abilities, both of their parents have to be born with magic and they will get a magic type from one of their parents, if only one parent is naturally born with magic they will only have half the power of the parent born with magic. There is something known as a magic lens that determines what magic someone is born with.
Through a very long, difficult process that involves training, one can change the type of magic they were born with. This involves a spell that uses their familiar, in the spell the familiar will permanently bind to their owner and will cease to exist physically. Essentially, the spell absorbs their familiar into them to give them a different magic ability. After this, the person will train for months and get used to the new ability. This may also psychically change something about them, like make them lighter, warmer, colder, or something like their eye color, but this depends on what type of magic they have converted to. So far, the only character that has done this is Lukas.
Water magic is a magic type often used because it isn't as dangerous as other magic types. The ability allows them an advantage to fire magic and large groups of enemies. Water magic is not compatible with fire, electric, and ground magic.
Some spells include tsunamis, creating anything out of water, bubbles, water vortexes, and dehydrating.
They can swim much easier - additionally, because of their ability to create shapes out of water, they can make anything to help them swim.
They naturally have more energy.
They can easily weaken fire/fire magic users.
When extremely angry or sad, to the point it's uncontrollable, it's possible for them to accidentally summon large bodies of water out of their body or eyes which can accidentally injure or drown anyone in close proximity.
They get dehydrated very easily, especially in dry/hot areas.
Because of the damaging of fire, it's almost impossible to learn fire and water magic at the same time.
Ice magic is a sub-type of water magic, thus being very similar to it. When wielded correctly, it holds immense power and can be incredibly accurate in the hands of a skilled user. Ice magic is not compatible with electric, fire, and flower magic.
Some abilities of this magic type are icicles, creating anything out of ice, cold breath, and ice/snow storms.
Natural ice magic users possess the ability to instantly freeze any body of water at their will, due to how cold they often are. Despite that, they are strengthened by water as it is a sub-magic of water.
Cold or snowy areas don't affect an ice magic user, it actually makes them stronger.
Near hot and dry areas, they will sweat a lot more, almost like they're "melting."
Fire magic is a powerful type of magic. It, of course, allows the user to summon fire. Fire spells include Fireballs, Rings of fire, Fire breath, and making little flames with your finger as basically a natural lighter. Fire magic users can also make campfires very easily. Fire magic is hard to learn, especially with more complex spells like fire breath if it doesn't come naturally. Fire magic is not compatible with water, ice, terra, crystal, and ground magic.
Constantly being warm.
Being able to increase the strength of their power depending on their emotions.
Being essentially immune to being lit on fire.
Steam is released from the user if they come in contact with water*.
Water significantly weakens the magical ability, making it almost impossible to learn water magic and fire magic at the same time.
Sometimes, if the body believes it's not getting enough resources for the magic, the body will randomly light itself on fire. This most often happens when asleep.
*For people learning fire as a second magic, it's only if they're using their familiar to get the magic naturally.
A lot of people choose air magic because it's simple to use but powerful. Air magic works best when used in large areas. Air magic uses atmospheric conditions along with a person's naturally born magical ability to cast a variety of spells. These spells can include slicing movements, powerful gusts, and protective barriers. Air magic also allows the ability to fly with "air wings" without a pet or plane. Air magic is not compatible with terra and ice magic.
Some of the powers of air magic include wind gusts, windshields, tornadoes, speed, and blowing things away, or if using wings, using wings to blow things away. Additionally, air magic users can float at a low or high point above the ground, though not for very long.
Naturally have speed and quick reflexes.
Can withstand cold and very windy areas.
Without their magic or another magic ability, they aren't as physically strong.
Can cause major destruction if their magic isn't properly controlled.
Electric magic is the ability to possess lightning to the individual's will. It can electrocute people to varying degrees, and its light is sometimes so intense that it can easily blind an opponent. It has the ability to burn and paralyze people.
Abilities include lightning bolts, clouds to summon mini-storms, and creating mini lightning vortexes over their fingers.
Electric magic isn't compatible with ice, terra, and ground magic.
The magic of a natural electric magic user can accidentally shock people the user comes in contact with, however, this isn't painful and is like the natural shock that sometimes happens when you touch someone.
Can withstand fire pretty well, but not entirely - fortunately, the injuries they get are more like a little sunburn than any genuine injury.
It isn't mandatory to be in wet areas, but moisture does strengthen their ability.
Also known as Varahian magic. Terra magic is the mix of both ground and flower magic while also having unique general plant spells. Using this type of magic requires skill and years of training due to how strong and diverse it is. Terra magic is not compatible with water, fire, crystal, ground, and flower magic. You cannot have ground and/or flower magic with terra magic as terra magic is a combination of the two.
Terra magic spells mix both the spells of flower and ground, such as turning things into stone, making obstacles from the ground, summoning vines, and summoning flowers. Its unique spells include making little creatures out of plants, stone, or metal; and shields or weapons made out of roots and vines.
When standing on any type of ground, individuals are capable of sensing the vibrations caused by the people around them.
When the user has strong emotions, vines may take control of their limbs and other people at random and are difficult to break off, it also can suffocate them and the others around them.
Often confused with terra magic and rightfully so because of their similarity, but there are major differences. Ground magic focuses, obviously, on the ground aspects of Terra magic; such as turning things into stone, making ditches, and sort of mazes or obstacles from the ground. Ground magic is usually considered a weak type, but it can be very powerful, as the user can manipulate stone and land to their will.
Ground magic isn't compatible with terra, electric, water, and fire magic.
Ground magic has its own "sub-spells," a ground magic user will have to learn their spells from specific environments/materials. These "sub-spells" include Metal spells, Sand spells, and Mud spells.
Naturally strong and durable, it's very hard to break a ground magic user (physically, doesn't apply to mentally).
When standing on stable ground, individuals are capable of sensing the vibrations caused by the people around them.
Their magic can weaken when not on solid ground like sand or water.
Most of their strength goes to their magic as they're often slower.
Water weakens ground magic.
Flower magic is the ability to summon flowers and be in tune with nature. Flower magic is very diverse, as flower magic users are able to summon almost every flower. Flower magic is not the strongest magic but is the hardest to master just due to how many spells there are. Flower magic is closely tied with ground magic, and they often work very well together because of terra magic. This type of magic also has very present healing properties, as summoned flowers can be used to treat wounds and ailments.
Flower magic isn't compatible with terra, crystal, and ice magic.
Flower magic spells include summoning flowers, summoning vines, flower slingshots, seed projectiles, bringing back flowers to life, vine scythes, and healing wounds or sickness with flowers.
Flower magic users are very in tune with nature and know exactly the needs of a plant/flower.
A flower magic user can bring back withering plants to life just by being in close proximity to them.
Flower magic can be incredibly strong and damaging when in the correct environments.
Flowers will start growing on the magic user when they are depressed or sick. Additionally, may cough out flowers when sick.
Unless surrounded by nature and wildlife, the magical ability itself is considerably weak.
If used without conscious thought or when feeling strong emotions, flower magic can be disastrous.
Not great for strength, as flower magic doesn't give any extra strength or anything like that.
Example of the hand scars
Example of the crystal scars
Crystal magic is a powerful type of magic that allows the user to summon any type of crystal. They are allowed to summon it from the hand or in the air. When summoned from the hand, the crystals basically emerges from the hand and can be any length or crystal the person has in mind. This method can be painful, but usually only if the crystal is sharp. Summoning crystals in the air or on the ground is much easier and usually is the method used for bigger crystals/complicated spells. The user will hold their hands out and summon a bunch of crystals in the air or anywhere on the ground.
Crystal magic isn't compatible with fire, flower, and terra magic.
The use of crystal magic is widely regarded as dangerous as it can cause multiple colored scars and severe injuries. In fact, Varilynn went blind because of an injury from an accident with this magic. Fortunately, it's very rare for it to give one severe injuries unless they're doing something wrong.
If summoned from the hand, it may leave behind a faint scar with various colors.
The magic can give their user a lot of strength if used often, sort of like exercise.
Their hands can crystallize any object.
As mentioned before, without proper knowledge, the magic can severely injure themselves or anyone around them.
Crystals can become weakened by dust or air.
The summoned crystals aren't actually the real crystals they're mimicking, more so a copy of it.
Using crystal magic too often and/or improperly can cause chronic soreness and pain in the user.
Clairvoyance is an ability where the person with this magic will gather information about anything they please through extrasensory perception. It should be known that this ability is really only possible if you're born with it, unless you use a familiar and get the information it gives you.
The ability to see into the future. It can be seen in crystal balls or pop up in ones head, as if its a flashback. They will also experience the emotions and feelings of the person physically. This ability actually isn't that rare, but it's known to effect the mental health of people with it very badly.
This is the ability to understand another person's thoughts or communicate with them mentally, instead of phyiscally or verbally. This magic is useful but can tire the user fast, so its used sparingly.
A magic type where one can uncover information and memories about a person or event by touching objects that are associated with them. Often used by detectives.
A magic type where the user can read what someone is thinking of in their head. This ability is often ridiculed, but it can be very useful. There are limitations it has as to not be too overpowered, however, as a person with this ability can only read one persons mind at once and only for about 30 seconds; and it is very hard to master this ability if you're not born with it. Mind-readers born with the ability are very rare, and only make up about 0.002% of the world.
