Alqati

Alqati are a species originally found on Ebrya. They were discovered thousands of years ago when Ebrya itself was discovered, and a lot of them were forcibly experimented on and killed. They were also experimented on and killed by the Lycaurican government during the 1800s and somewhere in the 1960s.

Due to the Lycaurican government experimenting on and killing them multiple times, they painted the species as "monsters," which still affects the Alqati today. This is why most Alqati born on planet Valai choose to live on Ebrya.

Most Alqati look very similar to one another. Their most common colors are dark purple or blue, unless they're albino, but that's very rare. They usually have two to three eyes (or more) with no visible pupils that are bright unnatural colors, the most common are purple to yellow-green to green. Despite their furry look, they don't have fur on most of their body, they have smooth skin and sometimes bits of feathers, however older Alqati do get a bit of fur fuzz on their snouts. They also have hard shell-like bits on most parts of their bodies, including their heads, ears, shoulders, chests, and tails. This is to protect their most exposed parts of their bodies from radiation, as Ebrya has a weaker atmosphere and thus more exposure to radiation from the sun. On the center of their chest lies a transparent layer of skin which is where they lay eggs from. All Alqati have both the ability to have and make children. Alqati can naturally have children without a partner but are inclined to have partners due to both evolutionary and social factors, however, when two Alqati reproduce together they will each have their own kid instead of one kid. This means Alqati siblings can technically be twins even though they were born from two separate people.

Hybrids of alqati and other species do infact exist, and are surprisingly common, and unfortunately receive just as much discrimination. Hybrid examples include alqati-bunny hybrids, alqati-goats, and alqati-cats. Additionally, those who have multiple eyes but are not alqati most likely at least have alqati in their bloodline.

Some alqati have subtle differences in their appearances from evolving to have features similar to whatever animal they've interacted with or seen the most.

Alqatis are usually very tall and might seem intimidating to those who've never seen one before. They also live incredibly long, up to 400 years. Considering this, they age very slowly and differently to other animals. Signs of aging are the fuzz that grows on their snouts and purple spots taking over their original eye color.

Originally, before the several invasions of Valai, they looked very different. They had an abundance of feathers, different tails, and different hands. They also had wings at some point in time as well, but most Alqati do not have wings anymore, instead having small bumps in their backs that indicate they did have them at one point. Those brought to Valai and those affected by the pollution brought on by the invasion of Valai had to adapt to the new environment, causing the drastic change. They had to mass migrate to a new environment, a much hotter one at that, causing their feathers that gave them warmth to no longer be useful to them. In some regions there are still Alqatis with an abundance of feathers. Alqati on Valai also now look different to the Alqati on Ebrya.

Alqati also have gills near their backs and require a humid and moist enviroment to breathe properly. On Ebrya, a device has been created to accommodate this need almost perfectly, called a "breathepack" colloquially. It is, put simply, a humidifier-resembling tank designed to be worn like a backpack that can release water into the air or directly into the gills and mouth. Valai has similar accommodations for alqati, though not nearly as much effort has been put into it. Instead, they tend to use the same helmets aquatic animals need to wear to breathe and attach a vial of water with a button to release the water into the helmet.
