My role as Library Media Specialist at Winnisquam High School complemented my studies at Plymouth State College to earn my certification as a NH Library Media Specialist. During this time period I was tasked with leading the launch of a new Library Learning Commons and to collaborately develop a mission, vision, and with a SWOT analysis a short term and long range plan.
In my daily role, I would work with teachers to schedule time to introduce students to the library resources and as strategy to create partnerships and develop relationships. I assisted with lessons and activities based on curriculum goals when a teacher was absent. I worked with teachers on curriculum projects and provided options (and instruction) to integrate 21st century tools that would give students more opportunity for creativity, communication and collaboration such as collaborative storyboards, shared video creation and publishing to a wide audience. I worked with the local library to promote resources and also provided a ‘get your library card week’ and book return through our library. I started a 'Community Service’ opportunity for students in collaboration with the advisors. Evidence of my activities may include: LLC Staff Update, Library Notes, How to access the Library Calendar. Most resources were shared from a Library Commons Website (archive) that I created my first week.
