Candidates are effective teachers who demonstrate knowledge of learners and learning and who model and promote collaborative planning, instruction in multiple literacies, and inquiry-based learning, enabling members of the learning community to become effective users and creators of ideas and information. Candidates design and implement instruction that engages students' interests and develops their ability to inquire, think critically, gain and share knowledge.
Throughout my career as a technology integration specialist and professional development provider for educators, understanding learning styles and creating lessons and methods of facilitating the growth and learning of students has been essential practice. I have worked with students of all ages in all areas of the curriculum and have applied various pedagogies to accommodate all learners. For example, in my early years when I was assigned to teach keyboarding to young students I researched to determine the best approach and curriculum goals based on the brain development by age and was able to set realistic goals and appropriate teaching methods for each year based on that. I always include preassessments to drive instruction and survey my learners consistently to determine next steps. It is my belief that it is possible to provide a personalized learning experience for all learners if you know how to apply a variety of strategies when planning for instruction.
