To better understand the YA Audience I interviewed and observed practices between public and school libraries. These learners have interests that range from historical fiction to dystopia to graphic novels. It is important to have a variety of genres and ways to 'market' what is of interest to all audiences. The surveys and interviews also helped me better prepare for teaching and helping them determine the best way to demonstrate understanding of a topic.
Reviewed ‘Horn’ Book Magazine, School Library Journal and other resources for recommendations on new books. Discussed interests and literature with both staff and students. Consistently worked and read within the ‘library,’ not in my office to model reading and research and encourage discussion with students and staff. Surveyed students and offered access to OverDrive, Digital Magazines and Kindle books to determine how to offer media types as well as interest in graphic novels, for example for learning and pleasure.
