MANDATORY STEPS
Clearly explain how your investigation impacted your plan for your artwork. How did the artist influence you?
POSSIBLE APPROACHES
Study a media or material technique or composition strategy by creating a pastiche (an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period.)
Annotate existing artwork, studying how an artist/or artists created a specific reaction in their viewer (shock, laughter, amusement, curiosity) by analyzing how the artist used figures of expression relating to the style of their imagery
Interpret the artwork by analyzing the relationship between the imagery/iconography and the meaning (artistic intention)
Research how artists target certain audiences.
Research how artists curate or display their work.
Study the subject matter/imagery an artist has used by analyzing the symbolism or audience the work aims to reach.
Avoid discussing artist biographical information unless it serves as inspiration for your artwork.
Check your B screen to make sure it aligns with the criteria:
Students should engage critically with the work of other artists as they develop their artwork to inform and enrich their art-making. Did the student select an artwork with a shared material, technique or conceptual aspect?
2. Has the student explained why they selected this artwork?
3. Is there evidence that this student goes to galleries and museums to learn about art?
4. Is there an in-depth critical analysis to help solve material, technical or conceptual problems emerging in their own art-making development? Where conceptual, has the student included research to indicate they understand the artist's intentions, critics opinions, or iconography studies?
5. How much space on the page is occupied with biographical info? Remember that background biographical or cultural information has little or no relevance to this criterion.
6. Has the student demonstrated their knowledge of formal analysis in order to inform the formal concerns in their own work?
7. Has the student concluded the page by stating the impact that the critical investigation had on their artistic practice. Is what they say they learned something they already knew before and they just found an artist doing something similar and summarized what they have in common or did they actually learn something?
