MANDATORY STEPS
state the intention for your practice
develop a range of skills, techniques and processes
show how and why you selected your materials
explain your outcome
HL students must develop A pages with a minimum of 3 media from 2 columns. SL students must develop A pages with a minimum of 2 media from 2 columns in the table below.
POSSIBLE APPROACHES
preliminary drawings, sketches, designs and paintings of subject matter (practice pieces).
show how you selected the media/materials appropriate to your intention by conducting media comparisons.
planning the formal qualities of your artwork.
small studies with the media
photographic evidence of 3D artwork experimentation and practice.

explain the skills you are practicing, such as facial or body proportion, foreshortening, cutting a mat etc.
various trails of compositional arrangements
Check your A page to make sure it aligns with the criteria:
1. Is there sustained experimentation (did the student make multiple attempts at composition or practice of a specific skill or technique? Is there a finished practice piece?) or is the practice quick, superficial or not really practice and more something to fill the space or just quick sketches?
2. Are the specific skills, techniques or processes clearly stated in the heading or first paragraph?
3. Has the student indicated the purpose behind their experimentation as it relates to their artwork intention or idea?
4. Are all stages of the experimentation visible and labeled?
5. Does the student use subject specific vocabulary for that media/skill/technique?
6. Does the student justify their materials choice?
7. Does the student briefly conclude whether their experimentation was successful/what they learned/ or how is helped develop their ideas for the piece?
