"Some people wonder whether what I do is inspired by a computer and whether or not that kind of imaging is a part of what makes this work contemporary. I absolutely hate technology, and I'm computer illiterate, and I never use any labor-saving devices although I'm not convinced that a computer is a labor-saving device." - CHUCK CLOSE

Create a mind-map that shows your process of thinking and initial generation of ideas.
Artistic intention: What do you intend to communicate about your status?
Regarding visual communication, what is imperative that your audience understand while observing your final artwork?
Why is it personally important for you to show yourself in this way?
Which composition strategies will be used to organize the artwork? What is the function of each selected strategy?
Explain the significance of the setting and any symbols
Explain the significance of the light source?
Collect the props and clothing necessary for your character. Go to your selected setting with a friend or tripod and take multiple black and white photos paying special attention to your body language and facial expression. Make sure that all of the iconography communicates your intended message.
Make sure there is a single light source and that you show at least half of your body (including face).
Print and glue the three best photos in your sketchbook. (The photos must be black and white and at least half an A4 page in size.)
Ask 3 people to read your written intention and give you feedback about which photo best expresses the idea you intended to communicate. Ask them to explain their thinking in your sketchbook and record their name.
Show consideration of your peer's feedback and refine your photo stating what changes you will make (cropping, digitally altering the light source, reshooting photo etc)
Clearly identify your final choice and justify why you selected that specific composition.
