Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space.
Ilse Crawford: Interior Design
To start your plan, begin by watching the Netflix full episode about interior designer, Ilse Crawford. Look at all of the different options for places you could design. Take note of how she considers the needs of the her clients.
Have a look at some existing sketches. Perhaps you will find an idea worth further exploration.
Watch Phoebe Oldrey's Ted talk. Your design will revolves around the needs of the client/s . Phoebe outlines the difference between physical, emotional and visual aspects of interior design.
Think about UCLAs stress levels based on space, the color of the jail tiles, and the Google rowboat that Phoebe discusses when planning your purpose.
You will interview your client at this stage. Your client needs to be someone or a group of people you can speak to regularly through the process of making your designs. Make sure you have watched and read through the information above so you are prepared for your clients questions and responses. Explain to them that you will be designing two interior spaces to serve their needs. Tell them what location you have chosen to design and ask them the following questions aiming to better understand what would allow them to have the optimal experience in the space you have selected.
Ask your client these questions:
1. What would you (your client) require or appreciate physically in this space to have an ideal experience? You might need to give them some ideas about walls, floors, ceilings, windows and doors. At this point you can write down just a general idea.
2. What would you (your client) require or appreciate emotionally in this space to have an ideal experience? They might not be familiar with this term. Help them understand that emotional planning is about setting the mood of the space. This might include things like the size or intimacy of the space, proximity of other people in the space, the lighting, the noise, the comfort, the organization etc.
3. What would you (your client) require or appreciate visually in this space to have an ideal experience? They might not be familiar with this term. Help them understand that visual planning is about textures, colors, patterns, lines and forms.
