Write your name in cursive, leaving a little bit of extra space in between your letters.
You can use as much or as little of a slant as you want.
Find the down strokes and draw a second line next to them.
What’s a down stroke? It’s anyplace where your marker is moving in a downward direction when you naturally write the word.
Fill in the double line areas with your marker to create the illusion of thicker lines.
In the process, you can make any little corrections you need to if some of your lines were shaky or not quite what you wanted.
Pick one word to work with for this first workshop. Pick one of your watercolors to use as the surface. Imagine you are saying that word over and over in different ways, with different intonations. Try visualizing what it sounds like. Try writing the word at least three different ways.
Examples by Alanna Cooney, Vittoria Fumelli, Sara Crogh & Priscila Duhalde 2019
Click on the link and browse some of the creative fonts people have created. Pick one of your watercolors to try one of these fonts on. For this exercise, include a short story with the words on the watercolor painting like Tommy Kane does.
Examples by Noah Bergman, Maya Drouin & Gennaro Rios Vargas 2019
On another of your watercolor trials, try with pencil to plan a composition to place your words around. Use at least one vector form like the example of 'work' to the left. Use the french curves available on class.
