The Heargemen are a race of quadrupedal, marsupial-like creatures found throughout Kelava, typically standing at 3 feet tall when on all fours and reaching up to 6 feet when standing on two legs. Despite this potential height advantage, they prefer moving on all fours, and more often will adopt a hunched posture in which their front limbs barely hover off the ground.
They are covered in thick fur nearly completely, the only areas left bare being their ankles, hands/feet, tail, and snout. These coats can range in colour between browns, rust-reds, greys, and blacks, mottling to a lighter shade the closer it gets to their underbelly. They have digitigrade legs, with opposable thumbs present on both the hands and feet.
Strangely, these creatures seem to communicate with their language, sounding almost similar to the typical mortal tongue. Though any efforts for translation have failed, the nature of the Heargemen makes this task all but impossible. It is said, however, that there have been instances in which Heargemen learn simple phrases in the common tongue, mimicking those that they hunt.
While they appear to lack the ability to strategise beyond simple ambushes and are without the dexterity to create arms and armour beyond simple cudgels, some have been known to use weapons stolen from sapient races and even use traps like pitfalls or snares if the opportunity presents itself.
For the most part, Heargemen appear to subsist on scavenging, hunting, and raiding. Though it would take great effort to research the Heargemen and discover what their true nature is.
